further to my recent post concerning servicing .i just had my car serviced by the guy who had done my motors for yrs,he said he would have no problems servicing to merc standards etc..it was a b service at 6500 miles, the car is an 05 model..the problem is that he has been unable to reset the computer.it now shows b service overdue by 2 days.
he thinks he has missed someupgrades on his diagnostic equip and he is waiting for mb to advise ..do you know how the computer works is it possible it wont reset because something has been missed..is it a problem anyway??im off to france next week and dont want any problems with the car..any comments???????thanks in advance....grud

I'm playing devils advocate here, but did he do all of the service recall measures? Our A170 was done today and there were four things that needed doing, yours is older than mine so there may be even more items outstanding on yours ;)

How much was the service btw?

Edit: doesnt it say in the manual how to reset the ASSYST?

hi robbo..he didnt mention anything about recalls i dont know if he gets info from mb but he does run a merc anyway so i assumed he is up to date with stuff..i just read in the manual that a "qualified specialist workshop"will reset the computer.i dont know what he will charge because he does give me about 5 weeks leeway before i get a price but i still dont understand why he cant reset the system???

It's on Page 25 of the Interior section of your manual:

"If for any reason your Mercedes-Benz cannot be serviced by a Mercedes-Benz Service Station, it is possible in exceptional circumstances to reset the service indicator yourself:

Turn the key to position 2 in the ignition lock and immediately press button "000.0" twice within the space of one second.

Turn the key to position 0 in the ignition lock.

Press and hold button "000.0". Turn the key to position 2 in the ignition lock. Keep button "000.0" pressed.

Service message with the current remaining distance or remaining time appears.

After about 10 seconds, an acoustic signal will sound and the service display with the new starting distance or starting time appears for about 10 seconds.

Release button "000.0"
