It had to happen but last night for the very first time someone said "Your foglamps broken mate!"

Ah they do work then:rolleyes:

They are surely illegal in the UK? You're not supposed to have (any) front or rear foglights on unless visibility is below 100M!

I saw a W203 with what appeared to be active cornering lights and it looked odd when activated with one fog lamp on.

If DC offer this as a option in the UK price list then it should not be illegal unless DC have not complied with the UK Legislations. But again if the front indicator bulb fails on the W203 tehn the fog lamp is used as a substitute bulb which too should also be illegal…

Personally, the indicators in the wing mirrors do a pretty good job in my opinion for myself but I can see the buzz too from doing this particular mod as modding is an “addiction”.

That being so there are a number of high end Mercedes , Bms and Porches that have them fitted as standard. Remember they only come on below 25mph so not usually on the open road.

I wonder what Plodd thinks?

The law (The Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989 , regulation 27) says that it is prohibited for a front fog lamp:
(b) to be lit at any time other than in conditions of seriously reduced visibility

'Seriously reduced visibility' is normally defined as less than 100 metres:

So using 'active cornering' in clear conditions would technically be illegal. Whether you'd actually get done for it is another thing entirely; obviously prats who drive around with their front fogs on permanently are more of an issue and you see plenty of them

They probably are illegal as you quite rightly have stated that the cornering headlamps do not comply with the UK Legislation (s)… May be someone should draft a formal letter to DC…

Idiots that drive around with fogs on in non foggy conditions in my opinion do NOT look cool and are just attention seekers “ohh look at me please….”.

I'm on the phone to Milton Keynes at this very moment!

.........there answer was that Mercedes do not produce vehicles that do not comply with every piece of european legislation. They said that the lights are allowed because they are only on for short low speed durations........

I had a call from DC Maastricht this morning...

One of the ladies did not know what she was talking about from my conversation last week about something else and stated that labour has to be paid on waranty jobs for diagnosis because I had pinned her down on a contradiction...

I'm sure DC are feeding you rubbish...

"Tolerated", quite possibly. "Allowed", no. There's nothing in the UK law that says it's OK at low speeds or only for a short time :)

In order for DC to comply with the UK Legislation they simply have to stop offering the headlamp cornering activation as an UK option instead of charging £150 plus in their Price List brochure as having this as an option to increase their revenue...

they are useless anyway.

Anyone in the UK ( well most people ) have them with xenons . If you can't see with bi xenons you shouldnt be driving.

But they are good at GTGs!:)

You never came to the last one so that makes them useless...:p

I'm happy with just my bi xenons...

Right Kent Police have said that whilst it is true that you cannot run with foglights on in clear visability, it is also true that you cant drive on full beam in clear visability for the same reason. You are allowed (encouraged ) to flash your main beam to warn others of your presence etc. and you are therefore making temporary use of a light which would otherwise be illegal to have on (Beam in day light) therefore the arguement is the same for fog lights you are making temporary use of a light to check for people crossing a road you are turning into. You are not driving around blinding people withfog lights full on.

They also commented that there is nothing in Traffic Divisions guidance notes on the subject and that no one in the division has ever had a problem regarding there use.

They also said youd have to be a bit sad to go around quoting the Lighting Regulations at people. LOL

I think all that means they are fine!

I have had two coppers pouncing on me on two occasions just for the the headlamp locators activating in the evening when switching the engine of and remaining sat insidee my car without removing the key from the ignition... So Kent Police have hardly any room no room to talk...

but they didnt nick you for turning your foglights on?

On the second occasion he made me get out of the car and whilst he was pointing at the fogs they went out by themselves and he looked an idiot... :D

First occasion I had to explain to him and demonstrated and he let me off...

Lol:)
