They test DPF delete now....firstly to make sure its there and/ or not hollowed out....and secondly its close to impossible to pass the visible smoke part of the test without a DPF in place. My local centre is hot on it after one of his mates lost his right to test for three months after passing a car without a DPF that had been sent in as DVSA mystery shop. You will always get some that turn a blind eye....even on things like brakes. The worst place to get a dodgy MOT is any place where they offer turning services and mods as well as do MOTs. My local tester does NOTHING but MOTs....so hes got nothing to lose by not doing a test right. EGR delete is not tested for.....if its obviously missing then its a fail....but who does that....they write then out with software and MOT centres have no way of testing that.....should be obvious when they start NOX testing though. Does not worry me.....my cars are always 100% legal.....ish!

Doesn't bother me either buddy. I've kept all my cars tip top no matter the expense. Might even buy an eqc next , 275 mile range is more than enough for me.

As mentioned that there's already a proposal going through to add a particulate level check to the MOT, replacing the current 'smoke test'. This is already done in a number of European countries.

There was a consultation document last year which included measuring both particulate and NOx emissions as part of the MOT. The former is relatively straightforward and already done in some European countries. NOx is more difficult as it has to be done under load. If it requires any significant investment in the test centres I suspect it won't happen, given that diesel is on the way out anyway. But I agree it should.
I suspect diesels - for those who cannot make EV work - will be around for decades to come. Best clean them up - or clear them out.

The main problem with that is the major manufacturers were mainly interested in diesel engined cars for sale to the fleet market due to government influence making the available pool of used petrol engines cars quite limited for some time.

All of our cars are now petrol powered but we will consider a hybrid or full electric to replace one. Probably the X1 at some point.

Very true...and one of the reasons I bought the 350CDI......lots more choice and a LOT cheaper than the 350 petrol I would have preferred. Insurance was cheaper too.

Depends a bit on the government I think - they may decide to tax the hell out of them (and fuel) to 'encourage' people to get rid of them.

They've started that already on this so called ved .

Only inflation based rises so far though....or slightly over. The big rises were only for the first tome a car is taxed.....and that's CO based......so actually affects juicy petrol cars more than derv.
