Add the DVLA to my list of wasters

And I have no problems with my local DVLA Office either - always polite, never long to wait and even when transfering registrations from Lease cars via retention to private cars, no problems.

When my son transferred his registration number he wanted to collect the car on a Saturday. The local DVLA office is officially closed, but a very nice lady employee gave my son the local number ask for her, and she would meet him at the rear door on the Saturday morning. (she was working:) )

Good communication skills usually work better than insults.

John

You should have been suspicious when her first question was "Are you Davek?"....

:D

For the last time, I start off with pleasantries and resort only to their level when they show that they don't give two figs.

She was very nice, can you imagine what would happen if later on there was an issue of some sort, and it turns out that the transfer was made on a day that the office was shut.

Being polite is always important, even if you don't get results, however some people are just to ignorant to appreciate this and it is sometimes necessary to be a little more abrupt.

Perhaps the pleasantries need to last longer than "hello"? You're pretty correct though, they don't give two figs - one wonders why they would

Which is probably why the staff need to be "clones" and follow procedure

Sometimes it's a sheer inconvenience being human

They don't have to because they are on the brown gravy train. ( as opposed to a white sauce )

I think it is (typically) very judgemental to assume that we know how someone will behave when all we know about them is a few m posts on a forum.

That is why I am extremely surprised that someone carried out anything else than provide information on a day when the office is officially shut.

I am always polite and in return expect the same treatment -

Hi Fred,
I'm positive everything was perfectly legal and above board. The car was not my son's until the Saturday morning, so there was no way the DVLA could give us the new documents, plus the insurance commenced on the Saturday as well.

This was a nice lady making a very nice gesture.

If you think there is anything untoward please feel free to point this out via pm (avoid any 'in-coming') :)

I'm not sure we can expect politeness in return for showing good manners, as demonstated regularly on this forum.

They will only carry out a transfer if you have the last issued version of the V5 for the car, sensible really if you think about it? anyone with a previous V5 for that car could go into the DVLA office and remove the possibly expensive number plate from your car legally, or export it, or scrap it, or send the document off and change the address to theirs, or any number of other things.

Its nothing to do with your V5 being in the post, its because the ref number on your V5 has been sperceeded by another one, hence the one you have is no longer valid for the car. No offence but that would not need to be explained to me on the back of a form its just common sense.

Their rules CLEARLY state that if you are not in possession of the V5 for the vehicle you wish to transfer the plate too, you can do so by using the V5C/2 from that vehicle along with form V62. This I attempted to do. The only thing stopping you from doing that is if they have already dispatched the new V5 with your details on. If they haven't the transfer can be done, if they have printed it and put in in the post, you can't use the older V5C/2.

Only a clairvoyant would know if the V5 was already in the post. The only way for mere mortals to find out is by turning up at the local DVLA office and being told then, wasting you the customers time and money.

As previous posts have clearly proved you seem unable to regard anyone elses opinion as anything other than utter rubish, I don't think I have skills equal to the task of convincing you to stop ignoring the bleeding obvious but here goes anyway.

For there to be a V5 on its way to you from the DVLA you have clearly either applied for one directly or done so by default when following the normal process of purchasing a new vehicle, (unless the DVLA are clairvoyant). You and only you have the information that you have instigated the process of obtaining a V5 in your name for the vehicle (no crystal ball needed their), the person serving you at the DVLA local office has no clue that you have instigated the process until you rock up with an out of date V5. Lack of common sense and research (not suggesting this is what caused your issue) can just be written off these days by people quoting "The Rules".

Strange how you have chosen to ignore the very valid reasons that I have given for not accepting your out of date (as you have requested a new one!) V5...............................

The non spiritual way of finding out if you have the current or an out of date V5 is here, hopefully this will save you a wasted journey in the future.

I use the DVLA local office regularly and see things clearly from the other side, agressive people with the wrong/out of date documents trying to off load responsibility on the person serving them, rudness from the customer while they are just trying to do their job, etc etc. I have never had an issue as I am always happy to wait my turn, freindly and polite, and have the correct documentation and knowledge to complete the transaction without issue.

With your attitude (the poor one that you constanty display on here) I would imagine your list of "Wasters" is a fairly lengthy document :D

Dear All.

As previously advised I bought a private plate on 30/4 and strangely enough the V750 turned up in the post on Saturday even though the DVLA advised 2 weeks. I collected my wife's Saab on Thursday and the V5 turned up on Friday (the dealer must have posted it to the DVLA late the week before!). So all is good so far!

I am going to the Dealer in the next couple of days to get a set of "plates" made up with the new registration number then will walk around the corner (quite convenient really) with the new plates, V750, V5 and the tax disc and see how long they take to swap everything over.

Watch this space . . . . . .

Take the MOT and insurance with you - I'm pretty sure my old MOT was retained and a new one issued.

I got mine done in about an hour.

Fred, it hasn't got an MOT as its under 2 years old.

Do they require the Insurance Cover Note as it hasn't come in the post yet (Norwich Union are usually slow) ?

regards,

KJ
