Adding FM IPOd to Comand 2.5

Hi all I have 2001 s320 with Comand 2.5. I have bought an FM converter IPOD thing which is easy to wire in via the ariel in on the rear of the Comand.

It needs a 12v supply, I believe that the Red wire power supply to the rear of the Comand 2.5 will provde this, can I simply add the wire from the Connects2 FM to red wire in the power block which fits into the Comand?

Hope that is clear:-)

I think that the red wire is a permanent live, as the Comand unit will be woken up by the CAN.

I would think that you need an ignition fed 12v feed, and it would be better to get it from either the cigar lighter, or the glovebox light.

would it not be a nicer solution to wire in an AUX socket into comand? i did it on a COMAND 2.0 and it was fairly easy. I doubt COMAND 2.5 is much different?

failing that, on my COMAND 2.0 there was an ignition sense wire aswell so i am sure there is on yours. (Maybe PIN 7)

this may help in some way:

also: (not sure if this is a 2.5 or a 2.0 layout but i suspect connectors A to be the same...

Thanks gbjeppm. That's an option I will consider

Any idea the colour of the wire I would need to cutinto at the Cig lighter?

I would love to add an auxin, but this is the older Comand 2.5 with a cassette player, and no facility for aux in.

Thanks for that diagram, by referal to that Dension site and a little more googling, I think that Block A pin 4 is constant 12v, and it looks as if Block A pin 1 is constant source too! Seems to depend which website I read. I guess one is and one isn't.

I'll get the unit out at the weekend and give it a go. If I try to power the FM unit by piggybacking the red wire into pin 4 (which may or may not be constant) I dont think I can do any harm to the comand or the car, can I ? .

If that doesn't work then I'll piggyback into pin1, and if that doesn't work I'll cut into the cig lighter power wire (once I know which colour I'm looking for.)

Thanks for your replies so far, helps me avoid breaking things!

There should be 2 wires going to the cigar lighter, a brown which will be the ground, the other should be the switched feed.

I think though your approach should be fine of trying the comand pins first. If you have a multi meter, stick one end on the ground, and then test for 12v on the other pins with and without ignition, that will tell you.

Thanks for help, managed to fit this and find the power at the rear of the Comand 2.5.

Very pleased with the Connects2 sound, no interference.

Only 1 problem, it seems to be outputting in mono. Certainly when the IPOD is in use it is, and I suspect that the FM radio is mono too.

Bit odd, I wonder if there is something I need to change in the settings, though I cannot detect any settings?

I guess I'll have to take it all out again and try the radio without the Connects 2 to make sure it is operating in Stereo

Any thoughts please?
Thanks

did this ever get resolved?
