Hi,
I thought that I would post this as it might come in handy to anyone with windows that open as part of the door opening mechanism. It is based on a 1999 SL
Problem:
After I purchased my car I noticed that the passenger door seal was scratched. upon further examination, I figured out that if you opened the door to quickly the window dropped slightly too far and as a result hit the sill of the hardtop as it closed. If you opened the door and pulled gently on the window it would move. You could feel that the window was loose compared to the driver door, which was quite firm.
The solution
At the top of the door there is a silver plate with three screws in it. Remove the plate and move the flat piece of rubber shielding the inside of the door.
Behind this you will find a Philips screw in a piece of metal. The screw hole is slotted. Push the rear edge of the window, towards the front of the car and make sure that it is sitting where it needs to be. Then loosen the screw and push the wedge that it is attached to it up to meet the now secure window re-tighten the screw and replace the silver cover.
This should solve the problem. You may need to try this a few times to get the window to the correct position.
