Hi guys,

I'm looking at picking up a used C63 saloon (facelift model) and need C63's owners' advice.

I'm currently interested in a car that a stealer is selling.
It's a 61 plate model in magnetite black with around 18,000 miles and has performance package plus as an extra and Designo leather seats. Doesn't have the 19" wheels or harman kardon upgrade though.

It's listed for £39,989 and doesn't look like the dealer is willing budge much at all. Am I paying too much? I can see another dealer is selling 2013 model (looks like bog standard) with 5,000 miles for £42,500.

I have been looking at all the cars for sale last night and the more I look at it, the more I get confused!

I would appreciate any advice.

Thanks.

Hmm.. I was thinking of buying used outright. I don't really want to switch cars often so not sure leasing is for me.

yuo can of course lease it for 5 years for example.

I'd drive one as a first port of call. I dont really like mine, and quite a few owners feel the same way. Once the engine hooligan phase wears off, it feels like a very expensive c-class.

Of course, others love it....

Exactly what it is.. albeit a rather nice one.

yes, but not in the way a 911 turbo feels like an expensive Carrera 2......more like how a very expensive michelin star curry feels the morning after. Very tasty, and worth the money at the time, but you still have the sh*ts in the morning and reckon you may as well have had the £6 jalfrezi from up the road.

Unfortunately such feelings, for me, were hard to notice in a 24hr test drive....

I have been looking for a while too and the one you are talking about is a fairly good price. If you are keen then push the dealer for a better deal.

Personally I will go with a 2 year lease deal probably on an Edition 507. I don't want to part with £40k plus on a used one when I could drive a new one for a lot less over a fixed period. Have you budgeted for insurance, maintenance, tyres and lots of fuel :-)?

Leasing doesn't include insurance, maintenance, tyres and fuel though does it?

I might be missing something but I don't get how leasing works out cheaper? The benefit is obviously you get to drive a new car, but is it cheaper? Don't want to start an argument like I saw in some other threads though..

If I buy with cash, I'm not really parting with 40k. I can always sell the car and get money back (less depreciation).

Please feel free to enlighten me!

Leasing can include maintenance but the monthly cost will go up. No such luck on tyres or fuel :-). You could get a tyre insurance policy though.

Leasing vs Purchase as you have said plenty of threads on that on here. Each to their own ...

Each to their own, but I'd rather have a new car (full warranty, brake down cover etc) and the cash in the bank, knowing its not been abused as lets face it the C63 was made to be ragged.

what happens if need to get out of the lease?
If you own it, you can sell anytime, but can you get out from leases without significant penalties?

Depends on the T's and C's. It would probably cost you some money to get out early.

I don't feel that about my E Class - is it a C thing :dk:.

^there have been a few of us.

I just feel the car is over engined. Lots of driveline shunt etc. And once the prodigious power has become 'normal' in sensation it is hard to appreciate the pretty non-60k car interior, comfort levels etc. There is no switchable suspension etc either.

Ultimately it is a car engineered to be sold at 20k with a 40k addendum of the 6.208 engine as opposed to the 911 carrera which is engineered to be a 70k base and made better.

Maybe the e is one step better in quality to make the price difference between top and bottom less noticeable?

If this is the one you are referring to it does have the Drivers Pack as well as PP+. So it's probably not a bad deal.

Thanks for that ^^.

E63's start at c£75K as a base and spec up to around £100K if required (with mine having been £92K in 2010).

It's got enough trim and switchgear quality to feel special along with switchable suspension, gearbox and ESP.

It's early days for me but so far I love it.

Interestingly though, it too suffers driveline shunt - the LSD doesn't help.

My S211 E320 Sport was significantly more civilised around town, with it's slushy torque convertor (the E63 has MCT) and softer suspension.

You should have £40k plus in the bank which hopefully would have increased through careful investment.

Yeah. That's the one. I would have pulled the trigger if they dropped to 38k, but not sure whether that's realistic or not. I've seen people here getting massive discounts so didn't think it was too unrealistic.

What's included in driver's pack? I know there's the track day thing, but obviously that's not valid now.

Hmm... some people's negativity is now making think twice about getting this car. What else is there in this price range.... RS5/M3...
RS5 is supposedly not that great to drive and M3 looks bit bland inside and out.

I think you have to drive it a few times yourself or get a long demo - weekend maybe.

Each to their own, but I wouldn't buy it again and will be out of my lease in 6 months.

I drive the range river sport 4 times out of 5 now (much to swmbo's irritation).

Dev - I think it is the lack of specific engineering (switchable suspension, amg button etc) that makes it feel like a 40k motor has been dropped in a 20k car. It is intoxicating for a while, but then my curry analogy started to take hold of me. Luckily it took me 14 months to do 5000 miles so it has only been the last few months that I have started getting really down on it.
