The reason to do the neg first is so if the spanner touches the chassis no sparks and safe

Sometimes we have fun

Heavy battery is it?

It's a tad on the heavy side yes, mind you i was thinking more if he is concerned about a battery being stolen when left overnight then he might want to think about manually locking the car door's.

With a bit of a window drop to protect the seals of course, oh and then something to seal the gap between the roof and window.

The car alternator is not designed for charging flat batteries.

So charge it over night, its the only way

There was a good thread on this a while back.

More correctly a car battery is not designed to be charged at 75A for 15 minutes, internal resistance etc prevents it from being able to charge.

Why not just change the car?

Is there anything wrong with the battery that requires it to be changed for the sake of a few hours on charge?

You do the math, New battery "Bocsh" wins over trying to put life into some flat battery thats "only 3 Months" old.

I hate to be a kill-joy, but are you sure the battery is only three months old?

If this is the case then will charging it resolve this issue? Unless the driving habits are changed then will this happen again? It sounds like the battery is in a terrible state and if this happens regularly then it will very quickly ruin the battery. Is there any signs of bulging? Are the sides of the battery completely square? (true) Where would you stand regarding warranty claim?

Good luck and sorry for being so negative ;)

Regards
John

Just a warning if you know nothing about charging batteries, the gas given off whilst charging is flammable so dont expose to a source of ignition. Always switch off the charger at the mains before removing the leads from the charger. Make sure the tops of the cells are covered by distilled water before charging (unless a sealed battery) or you will scrap the battery.

Batt

Well after leaving it on charge it didnt really solve the problem,so got a new one fitted today.

Many thanks to all those who helped me.

The car was actually off the road for six months and sorned etc, thats prob why the battery died etc, but now i dont have a code for the radio, so out with one problem and in with another:)

It's not flammable, its EXPLOSIVE.

If the radio is the original equipment then any MB dealer can give you the code

radio

Yes indeed it is the original one, although i might fancey a new one, that can play stuff via usb and a bluetooth etc
.

I'm trying to work out the logic in this.

Logic in this is, New Bosch battery (no charger to buy) job done. Things that are sold to you are never as thy seem, only 3 month old battery turns out much older.
