Advice needed on problem battery

Logic in this is, New Bosch battery (no charger to buy) job done. Things that are sold to you are never as thy seem, only 3 month old battery turns out much older.

Well I for one could not imagine life without a charger, what do people do when / if the battery gets low

They buy a new battery.

By your reasoning then I should have been on my 14th battery, the SL will only go 10 days unused without a charge. 14 batteries at £125 = £1750 but as I have at least 6 chargers that cost between free and £1 max then I have only spent 1 x £125

If it burns its flammable. Hydrogen Gas burns but will explode in a confined space.

Confined space has nothing to do with it.

Concentration and level of O2 does.

Sorry freddie, I thought that this was not like you

I'm much too tight to go throwing out batteries.

I mentioned that intelligent charger that Costco were selling in "the other post" - I have it on the Mini cooper in Indonesia and it was worth every penny - I've checked the output for stability and ripple and it is pretty stable.

I'm totally confused over the age oif this particular battery, but I put that down to me being a bit thick. IUs this the original battery, was it in the car when it was left standing for six months, or is it only three months old?

Do batteries come with any warranty and if so, why not replace it under any warranty?

Sorry about the questions, but I'm terribly slow and at the moment, confused. (I put this down to old age)

Regards
John

Hello old john.
A battery that's 3 months old could be dead flat,, but that does not necessarily be the end of it. I have brought many a dead battery back to life by recycling it.

One thing an automatic battery charger cannot do is to charge a dead battery as it needs a sensing voltage to tell it what to do, no voltage = no charge.

To get batteries going you can need up to 24 volts, once they start charging this has to reduced quite quickly down to the order of 18 volts , keeping an eye on the battery and charge rate,, as the resistance falls the charge rate increases and the voltage drops.

When charged then I discharge them using headlamp bulbs and charge again normally and do this 3 times, its called cycling.

I have had some good service from so called dead batteries lasting for many years

Remembering of course that Ohm's law doesn't work all that well with a lead-acid cell, the resistance doesn't really change much, that's why the charger needs to current limit, because the battery will not.

I agree its only in theory, though we cant measure it
