Advice needed on wheel sizes

I have a 2000 model CL 500 and need new wheels for it.
My current wheels are: 8j x 18 H2 ET44

The wheels I'm looking at are from a 2001 model: 7.5j x 17 H2 ET46

Will these fit my car? Or are they wrong size due to the ET being slightly different?

Take a look at http://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/information/fitting_chart/mercedes-benz that shows all wheels that have been approved for your car. They are also VERY helpful if you need to phone or email them. From that chart, it looks like 17" x 7.5" were fitted, so I'm guessing they'd fit OK. I can understand why you might want to change to a 17" wheel from an 18", but why do you want to use a narrower wheel than you have now?

It's not that I want to change, it's that I need to!
I've bought a damaged repaireable CL 500 and need wheels for it, the ones I'm thinking of putting on it are available second hand at a good price.
