Ford capri , Mercedes vito soon
Morning all,
I picked up a 2007 vito lwb yesterday, it has a standard mercedes cd player with a tachograph underneath, im wanting to take all this out and fit a new stereo, android maybe, sat nav, dab, do these just fit straight in and any recommendations please, also the ones I've looked at all seem square in shape, where the hole in the dash looks rounded?
Any advice welcome,

Thanks,
Steve

Rounded corners was for pre 2006,
after the corners were square.
At that point the speedo and rev counter became separate round clocks also.

I've gone Chinese for the head unit. Some searching here will give many results on that.

Thanks, ill have another look at the fascia, could've sworn it was rounded, lol, it definitely has the separate round speedo and rev counter

Basically the choices,
7 or 8 " screen with side buttons for toggling between apps.
Or 9" means having to return to 'home' for toggling, but my preference.

Be sure it has octo core, and 4 gig ram. Internal memory will be more than enough on all.

DSP means far better sound quality.

Screen brightness and how good the included apps are you can only find by installing, unless some one else has one.

A designated unit for the 639 will be pretty much plug and play, In 15 / 20 minutes. Install is easy.
You can then add the GPS antenna (site below the document tray), reverse cam, dash cam, DAB, as / when you desire.
An o/h microphone is really a must as the in unit mic will be useless at speed. For a couple of quids and a mic extension you can site one near the o/h light or sun visor.

The unit will tether to your smart phone for enet and live data, or via wi fi to your home when installing app / maps ++

Pay a tad more and only buy from UK stock.
Personally I only buy via eBay for the protection. These units aren't 100% reliable and neither are many of the sellers.

This is the set up I have now, thanks for the help, ill get on looking for one,
Steve

The wiring of the lower unit might complicate it a bit,
maybe a bit more than 20 minutes.

Outer trim flips off with a 1" scraper,
torx screws hold the HU.

Lift the rubber buffers under the document tray lid, remove 2x torx screws, lift at front and wiggle forward.
The GPS antenna can sit below that, the skinny coax can be dropped down to the new HU below.
If a separate wifi antenna then the same, some are screwed onto the back of the HU.

I've not had interest in DAB, so far, but that is generally cheaper if ordered at the same time.

How many speakers have you?
Have you tested them yet, often the upper tweeters have been damaged by previous owners.

Thanks, ill check on the speakers tomorrow, first merc I've owned, so there will be questions galore as I progress, lol, between that and trying to repair my fire damaged capri, should keep me busy!

Anyone heard of these?

No,
it's cheap, how many ram does it have.?Does it have DSP?

I know it has 4gb ram, not sure about DSP, what is that by the way? I emailed with a pic of my centre console, and they say it doesn't fit anyway,

That link you sent, I may go for that one, ill email them to make sure it'll fit mine, thanks m80

Hi again, sorry to be a pain, I emailed, they said it will fit but I need to get a new centre console surround which I have to get from mercedes, does this sound right?
Thanks

DSP digital sound processing, a much better sound quality.

With model specific HU's they will go straight in ,the surround just pushes back to finish the job on its 4 spring clips.

If this is merely a generic HU that will fit many makes and models the canbus is unlikely to be compatible so you loose the many functions.
Canbus causes many functions such as auto reverse to cam, dimming at night, 'some' mimic on the dash, steering controls (if yours has them), and a bit more.
Then the iso connector is unlikely to be matched to just plug and play. It may not power your antenna amp, it may not see the ignition trigger, which on newer kit is via the canbus.

Would anyone be able to recommend a good double din upgrade? With sat nav, and dvd, and with correct wiring to plug into my existing plugs, if possible
M80, not sure if you put that one up, or if it was a pop up advert?
Thanks,

Ah, thanks, do you know if that one plugs into existing wiring? If so ill order it now, long as it screws in and plugs in, ill worry about the fascia later

I read the unit needs a switched live from the front ciggy lighter, this is something I haven't needed for some time.
It isn't difficult but does require more work, if needed.
The recent units I've installed do this from the canbus.

Thanks, and sorry for all the questions, just ordered it 👍🏻
