i was thinking it might be the air conditioning drain hose being blocked as never seen a small puddle under car when it has been on for a while

Above the gearbox. There are two drains either side.

I doubt it is the issue though.

Get some anti-bacterial ac spray and remove the dust filter (passenger footwell) and spray the matrix. That will sort it.

Could you recommend an anti-bacterial ac spray? Any particular brand name to go for and where this can be purchased.

I also find that in warm weather there is an aroma in the car before the aircon kicks in

Olly - out of interest can you be more precise, never found mine when I looked in the past.

inside cabin, if you dismount the side carpet (if I well remember you need only to pull the carpet close to the bottom part of the centre console, in the foot area) you'll see two black rubber pipe (one per side) these are the draining that go outside the car. It's easy to remouve them and check!

I've sprayed the aircon spray directly into them!

I hope you have understand my bad explenation!
