Air Con ??

The gas contains lubricant which keeps the seals in good working order, if the aircon isn't used for long periods then the seals dry out and leak.

If your car is under warranty then I'd assume that it's under 3 years old so it's more likely that something mechanical/electrical has packed up as the seals take some time to dry out.

I wouldn't bother 'kicking off' at the dealer, it's either covered or not, be cool.

I am trying to stay cool.......that`s the problem....

Haha!!

Will have to let us know what has been replaced as mine has just started to hiss under the dash too and it's not as cold as it was so I'm guessing it's the condenser

Teamwork Lewyboy, like a finely oiled machine....

Mine is the same last time I was out the A/C light would flash then go off and no air con off to the dealers then

How cold are people's a/c. Generally ice cold? Mine has been regassed by Mercedes and is cool but not ice cold...

I just had my W210 regassed with the recent ATS offer and it is ice cold

That's how it should be. My Mrs Audi SQ5 is ICE cold on the lowest setting ! Just what she needed this week ! My merc is just blowing air that is the same temperature as outside !

Try putting on lowest temperature and switch on auto function

FWIW Kwik Fit are doing aircon re-gas for £39 at the moment (there's a 20% off discount code). Had the Vito done yesterday and C Class today.

Part of this problem stems from the fact that people generally turn the air con off through winter which can cause pipes to dry out etc and the fault will only arise in summer once it's put on full blast.

Exactly that Lee,never turn the air con off even in the depths of winter-never had a problem by doing so.......

my 211 E55 blows very cold ice cold if you like. But don't seem to remember an a/c button on the panel. hi/low on off so a/c is on when the on button is pressed. So unsure how run the blower with a/c off ?

With past owned bmw's you have a actual a/c button. So you can still run the blower with warm or coolish air without the a/c. Am I missing something or just very daft lol.

The latter.

A/c off rest button. I better get my coat lol

Cheers renault12ts.

Any update on this, or what the problem was ?
Was it covered under warranty?

My air con made the hissing noise just before last service 6 months ago (just coming up to 3 years old). The tech said they hiss when the gas gets low. They re-gassed and it was fine.
However, I've used the air con a lot since (for the reasons mentioned above) and it's failed again (hissing and warm air coming through the vents).
It's booked in now (hopefully under warranty) but is this a weak spot on MB cars?
