Well, my aircon is gone again, back to EC only :-( So let me put up some of the information I have gathered, maybe someone can help me.

The error code I have is:

B1421 - Pulse Module (NG5)

So if anyone knows that a Pulse Module is and where to get one, that would be great. The diagnostic output, with the engine running but idle, is:

1 22 In car temp
2 16 Outside temp
3 24 Heater core temp left
4 23 Heater core temp right
5 20 Evaporator temp sensor
6 55 ECT sensor (Engine Coolant Temp)
7 04 Refrigerant pressure
8 19 Refrigerant temp
9- 02 Unused
10 1.2 Blower control voltage
11 1.8 Emissions sensor voltage
12 4.3 Sun sensor voltage
20 0.0 Control current for aux fan
21 07 Engine speed (700rpm)
22 00 Vehicle Speed
23 00 Terminal (battery voltage in %?)
24 13.1 Battery Voltage
40 74 Software staus
41 30 Hardware status
42 72 Unknown
43 136 Unknown

I don't *think* there's anything wrong with any of these numbers, except perhaps the ECT sensor - is 55 too high? Could someone else check on their Air Con system for me?

For reference, here is how you get the data:

ERROR CODES:

1) Turn on the ignition
2) Set the left temperature to "HI" and the right temperature to "LO."
3) Simultaneously press buttons "Rest" and "EC" for five or more seconds
Steps 2+3 this must be done within 20 seconds of turning on ignition.
4) The "Recirculate" button will flash its LED. The screen will then go blank, and the first code can be brought up by pressing the right "AUTO" button.
5) Cycle through the codes by pressing right "AUTO" button (I only had the one code)
6) To clear the codes, press and hold both "AUTO" buttons together for 5 seconds (or was it the up and down buttons together, I forget).

DIAGNOSTIC INFORMATION:

1) Turn on the ignition
2) Press both "AUTO" buttons
3) Press both the red and blue arrows at the same time to set both temperatures to 22
4) Press the "REST" button for five seconds or until the left-side display says "1."
5) Cycle forward through the list with the left "AUTO" button, go backwards with the right "AUTO" button.
6) To exit, press rest.

Would appreciate any help (especially a part number for a new pulse module and an explanation of what it is and does! :-)

I've read both of these. But I don't *think* that the recalls are to do with my specific problem. The sensors mentioned seem on my car to be functioning just fine.

However - I think I've found what's wrong. I read the error code wrong, it should actually be

B1241 - Refrigerant Fill

So I guess it's just low on refrigerant!

This is both a good thing and a bad thing. Good because I have no complex modules to replace. Bad because the car was re-gassed when I bought it, meaning there's probably a leak :-(

Oh well, back to the AC specialists I go!
