hey dude

first check if you have a MAF! , if not K&N it!

ive got my K&N`s waiting to go in, also make sure the dealers arent funny abt it when it comes to service time, if they are then replace before servicing and put them back in after :)

good luck!

Thanks buddy,

Yeah I have a MAF on the M3, K&N seem good but i've hurd allot of maf issues when K&N are used..

Do I just buy some K&N and just blow them with a hair dryer before using them?

lol, My E36 M3, even though its a total diff kettle of fish to yours had a K&N for the 4 years i owned it without a problem, worth checking on the (dare i say) M3 forum and see what experiences\problems people have had on there!

Silly question, but what's wrong with new O.E spec M3 air filters? I'd be surprised if on a performance car like an M3 that BMW would overlook such a basic item and fit a restrictive air filter :o

IMHO I'd save your ££s and spend the cash on better quality tyres or super unleaded fuel, which I suspect would offer better gains for the money :)

Hey Will, thanks for your advice buddy.

Nothing wrong with the OEM one but it's on it's way out and I thought i'd save my money and get one that will last for years to come, instead of changing every year or two...

Even the BMC and green filter is oiled like the K&N.

Yeah I just noticed that...

what do you guys suggest then? buy an OEM filter?

That's what I'd do :)

How many years/thousands of miles are you intending on keeping/using the car? How often do BMW suggest the air filter is replaced?

K&N (and similar) filters have never been very good IMHO, and that's why no (?) major car manufacturers use them to my knowledge :thumb:

Hi Josef,

Loving the new car, saw the pics in your thread.

If you are looking for a stock airbox upgrade, ITG may well be the solution, very popular in the R56 Cooper S/dealer upgrade JCW/Factory JCW world, not 'over-oiled' to avoid potential MAF issues also.

ITG Air Filters

Worth a look.

Hey, thanks for that buddy, my brother has a 2004 Mini cooper S works and he strongly recommends the ITG filter..:thumb:

I had ITG's fitted to the CL55 when i had it remapped, i also had Green filters in the C43.

Will is most probable right, what the hell, I'm a real sucker for these so called performance mods.

They don't really effect the perfomance I agree, I had K&N when I had my c32 and it didnt really effect the perfomance, well not that I noticed any change in perfomance, there was slightly throatier sound and that's about it.

but I didnt have to change any air filter anymore and that's a bonus, they last allot longer than the standard ones! saves you allot of £££ :D

I'm sure you will not notice anything in a 500 bhp car, lol you will need more than air filters to notice a difference.:D

As you say the sound is better, although the CL sounds pretty good anyway.
