Aircon servicing

Re 'solar gain' ... yup my VW has a sensor on top of the dash for that, clever stuff.

Re. M-B dealers & aircon servicing ... my 'local' now says an aircon service is recommended every twelve months :D

Every 12 months? Do they make air con systems to be more servicable? MY mums air con in her 10 year old BMW is still like the day she got it, and hasn't even had a recharge... zero maintenance.

My bro got his brand new 3 series (that new Z4 inspired shape) and the air con in that only feels slightly cool and not cold!.. not even very cool, just passes off as being cool. BMW climate goes down to 16 degrees on the dash, MB on mine anyway goes one step below 14 degrees (LO setting) :D

That may be because it is climate, rather than simply air con. Climate never seems to give you that blast of ultra-chilled air that you can get from a simple air con system. It always wants to blend and disperse the air so as to gently cool the cabin.
But I am on your side, sometimes you just want chilled air straight in the face!

Low side port?

Does any one know which port is the low side port on a W210 air con system?

Is it the larger diameter port located on the front radiator/grill area, or the smaller one in the engine bay near to the battery terminal?
