Yes, I know but the wait on my part was self inflicted to coincide with some family milestones, oh, and the dosh as well!!!!!

No piccies yet but I'm working on them so, whats she like?. All I'd hoped for really and then much more besides. After coming out of the relative plushness and isolation of the C Coupe I'm certainly more aware of the outside world and the closeness of everything, especially the road underneath.

I also know now that there is an engine up front because, when she's up for it, she talks to me in crisp tones which are music to my ears and then, when its a steady away cruise, she purrs (Im getting pervy again). I think I got lucky with a fault free 7Tronic gearbox because I have not yet found myself in the wrong gear at the wrong time, it just gets on with things and when its playtime the steering wheel buttons work sharp enough for me ok. All the toys work, the Comand plays DVD video (stationary though), the neck and b*m warmers are effective, the roof is smooth which was a nice surprise because some I test drove were a bit clunky. Body work, trim, fit, finish, upholstery is all top class and believe me I'm picky.

The biggest worry for me was the steering i.e. would I be fated with any of the left drift that plagued my last one in its early days?, result?, perfect!, she goes exactly where I point her, no drift, no roll, no under/over steer, just the right weighting and at parking speeds its ultralight so three pointing and geting in and out of tight spots is easy.

All in all I'm well suited and my lifelong yearning for a "my next car's going to be better than this one" has been satisfied because this one (she's) with me for a long , long time.

Things have certainly moved on since my Mk II Sprite!, I'm calling her Diana btw, is this normal behaviour for a 50 year old? ;) .

Depends which behaviour you're talking about Dave ;) but I would have said yes - very normal. I like the name too :D :D

Sounds great.

Nothing wrong with calling it/her Diana. The only Diana I know/knew of was certainly very very beautiful.

Glad you like the SLK dave join the club, have you tried to walk away from the car without looking back, difficult, give you a race sometime. What are you using on the 7G box I use "C" all the time now.

Oooooooh Yes!, and I kiss her on the rear end star badge every night before bedtime but keep that to yourself ;) , I dont want all the world to know, especially Mrs P. The neighbours, I am sure, have spoted me but they made their minds up ages ago that I am bonkers anyway. :D

Up to press I've used S & C but not been confident enough, or in the right sort of traffic situation, to use M yet but, come the weekend, and all that will change. I seem to remember on my test drive in the 350 that the take off was quite snappy in S and that might not be the case in the 280 so, I might be happy to make S my default mode but then again its been light throttle take offs up to now so who knows?.

The thing I like best though is that she just simply fits, like in everything is solid and bolted together properly and I feel part of whats going on. Its hard to explain, like a second skin I suppose (without getting too double entendre  ).

Dave.

So it was worth the wait, super car although the wife wants 4 seats so there might be a change next year at the moment there is nothing out there or coming out that I fancy enough to change for. My mileage is criminal just 1908 miles at the moment so to change for another car that I will not do many miles in is a bit silly. The 230 has not moved for a month.
Have you sorted out all the little gizmos and screens yet, I still havnt a clue with the light switch.

Nope, I still have the books open at page 52 of XXX I think. The novelty ones were the first port of call like Comand, airscarf and the PTS, I still cannot tear myself away from watching Led Zep at Knebworth  . I think I must be a flashing light and buzzer tart, 70s Aiwa hi-fi? systems used to fascinate me :o , lol. Which bit of the lights dont you get?, or were you joshing?

Dave.

Edit: You probably know this already but the twiggy aerial can be substituted with the stumpy one from the current SL and the door pins, presently black plastic, can be changed similarly but for the ones in the new B Class :D.

A nice mod for about £25 but you lose Radio Baghdad apparently though ;)
