All things w168

I emailed MB direct also today regarding the 'mittelarmlehne'. Let's see what they say.

Has he still got it? Wouldn't mind the whole car! ;)
Judging by regular MOT failures - I still keep an eye on it, though not too closely anymore - he's not really looking after it, other than bare minimum ...
It has over 118k miles on the clock now, so perhaps he intend to run it as is, till its final demise.

What a shame to see something that you put so much time and effort into slowly deteriorates.

I enjoyed doing it, and owned that car for over four years, so not a bad run :)
But yes, it wouldn't require too much hard work, to keep it in top condition.

Yes, I tried to find those separate seats for the rear too - no luck.
Got myself a very nice grey nappa leather interior though, so was happy with that ...

Here's that rear armrest, just to tease you a little bit ;)

and the A210 door handles with the front armrest:

Obviously, I couldn't leave the armrest unmodified (USB port and carbon lining):

One other mod I can recommend - rear wiper from a W245 (suggested at the time by a fellow member here) - looks better, and fits without any alterations:

Oh, and the bonnet star:

:)
.... Talking of wipers David, look what arrived this morning...:);)

Because of this thread and @merc85 Underdog that is the w168 lol
and after many rubbish test drives of different small cars (Pug 206, Citroen C3, Saxo) I got today W168 A160 from 2002. I was particularly after a small Euro 4 petrol car with manual gearbox and the one I got was the best of all I tested. Probably there are much better ones but not in the price range I paid this one, wait a bit.
It's a one lady owner car with full Merc Service history, 116k miles and 7 months MOT. It has all four different brand tyres on steel wheels , new brakes all round, new exhaust and new rear swinging arms. All electrics work as they should, engine runs lovely and the gear changes are smooth and precise.
What is missing. Passenger door plastic moulding strip, one wheel cover and the remote doesn't work (maybe battery, don't know).
And all that for only five hundred quid.

Congrats! That is a bargain.

Check the back of the rear seat (unzip at the bottom of the ⅔ seat section), to see if you have a metal rod (locking strut) hidden there.
If not, you're welcome to mine - it was never used, other than to see how it works - there's a thread in Classifieds about it. Starts with FREE: :)

Thanks. I'll have to check if it's there.

Nice price.
That's what I paid for my A210. Albeit I bought mine without an mot hence the fact I got it so cheap. Flew through though and as you can see from the pics, it scrubs up well!

Remember most of the folk that judged this car have never driven one and based their opinion on what they've read and the odd video!

Well Our little w168 has now turned 112,000 miles, And its still going strong! Haven't had to spend anymore money on it since buying it what must nearly 2 years ago lol.

Total bills i think come to around £150 pmsl in 12k miles, What a cracking safe fun reliable little car, As above people judge these car usually without even driving one.
Happy wife equals happy me haha

Excellent. It's nice to come across another advocate of them.

A tip to all W168 owners -
When they were delivered new they had equal length blades but most, like me fit longer ones. I see alot if pictures where folk have fitted longer blades and fitted them the wrong way round.
There is a limit to how much longer you can go but the longer blade needs to be on the UK passenger side due to the way the arms were designed (ie for left hand drive markets) they never redesigned them for our market. So if you ever find your blades touch on the down wipe, it's probably for the reason I've just highlighted above. ;):)

Excellent tip, Edd - here's my old A160 (pic taken April 2015):

And, to save some guesswork, here's the full spec (I don't like keeping old boxes, etc, so I scan them and put into a single file, for future reference):

The rear one is an aftermarket replacement for the one Edd pictured above in message 67, to fit the W245 wiper arm.

PS Can't go any longer, than these. Trust me ;)

Excellent. Same as my sizes.
The rear w245 one that arrived today is a shorter item but the 2ish inches is a good price to pay for something much more modern looking.

My next project as the Twin engine idea just isn't ever going to take off...
Not my original idea, I've nicked it from Phillip Keil's fantastic 'A21'.
I wonder if the current Mrs Edd1968 would notice if her A210 exhaust ends were missing....

..... I’ve been looking at an AMG A210 online....

The only thing kind of putting me off is the way the grey/white panels on the seats have worn.
The only other one I’ve seen had similarly bad wear on those bits, I wonder how much it would cost to have those bits renewed by a trimmer?.......
