Hi All,

I’m looking to purchase a AMG GT-R. My current car is a 911 991.2 Turbo S.

I had a few of questions that I hope you can help with.

1. When did they start fitting OPFs to them?
2. Any “must have” options?
3. Reliability wise, anything to look out for?
4. Retro-fit CarPlay, do they work very well?

Thanks,
Carl

Carl, welcome to MBClub.

1. When did they start fitting OPFs to them?

OPFs started for the 2019 Model Year. Best rule of thumb is that digital dash means OPF, analogue dash means no OPF.

2. Any “must have” options?

Track pack is the closest to being a must have option. Some must have it, and some must not. If you’ll be driving it a lot - on the road - then I’d avoid it personally.

If you intend to use it on the road a lot then consider the GT C. I think it’s closest to being a touring version of the GT R.

3. Reliability wise, anything to look out for?

No common issues really, except the cup holder cover losing its spring return to close it. They’re £1k for a replacement.

4. Retro-fit CarPlay, do they work very well?

As well as in any other model. Some compromises, but may be tolerable if you have a strong preference for CarPlay.

Interesting move. Can I ask why ?

I've got a retrofit kit on my w212 e63 and my 6 series bmw. They use the current car infotainment screen. They work reasonably well. From memory the android auto on the system I have is wireless but car play needs to be wired in. If you're near the Surrey area I can recommend a couple of folks

Re CarPlay, it may have the hardware already present and only require software activation - give these guys a call and they may be able to tell you Mercedes Retrofit Specialists - Braybrooks
Not sure if it helps as depending on year extra however on my face lift A45 on a 65 plate I watched a YouTube video which showed how to get into engendering mode and what check boxes to mark so to activate android auto and apple car play. Took less then 10 minutes including way bing the video 👍
