AMG MPG average scary low

I have used Tesco momentum on my E63 and when in Italy used 100 octane, no difference at all.

You never going to notice a 1 RON difference when pootling about the place. Even on track the difference between 98RON and race gas is pretty hard to measure.

You're more likely to notice higher octane fuels in terms of better MPG.

I expected 15 - 20mpg for city driving, and Merc to lie a little bit on the technical book, but 9 is insane, and unfortunately for me I've not won any kind of lotteries.
Way too optimistic I would think- insanity comes with the AMG territory. Having said that I got 20mpg on a 50/50 town/mway journey yesterday (checked by topping up) over 100ish miles in the V12.

10mpg is about right when pushing on... or even a bit less. However 20ish when driving 'normally' should be achievable.... Although stop/start in heavy traffic will reduce the MPG considerably.

I had a 2011 E63 6.2 n/a, locally 15 - 18 mpg. 26 mpg on a run, and average 21 over 47,000 miles.
I sold it last month when I took delivery of my new W213 E63s.
MB claim better fuel consumption with the 4.0 bi-turbo, but that's not my experience so far - OK, I've only had it a few weeks and not 1000 miles on the clock, so cannot be accurate yet of course.
So far (according to the gauge) locally 13 - 16 mpg and 26 on a run to Birmingham, NEC and back.
MB claim 30 mpg, it'll be interesting to see if I ever achieve it when the car has settled down with a few miles on the clock.

But I'm not that bothered tbh. I wouldn't have bought an E63s if I really gave a damn.

Yes you are correct, what I should have said that between Tesco momentum and the major brands I have seen no difference in either performance or MPG. Based on driving 13k miles motorway/town/mountain.

Alright, thanks for that, I'm sure in time I'll come to peace with a full tank every 3 days. So far every time I've done outer city laps was for the sole purpose of driving like an absolute ****, so I averaged 130mph, mpg was 14.5 - 15 which adds up. Going to do a proper 7h journey next weekend, should get some better idea.

Off topic: Shell V power is what I currently use, is there anything equally good but less pricey you recommend?
I've always used Shell cause it was close by and in the 350 Diesel I didn't really care for V power or mpg figures.

This is a public forum, so of course you are saying you averaged 130 mph in another country where it was legal. If not it's downright irresponsible and, funnily enough, not something everyone on this forum would condone.

You mentioned this 130mph on your other thread...stop, or we will have to believe you.

Now, around town I get 15-20 mpg...yours should be worse.

130mph is a figure of speech, meant I wasn't driving for the sake of fuel economy, put it that way. Can't edit the post now or I would.

I drive in London in c/s mode around 15 to 25 miles one way and average from 11mpg to 15mpg. Average speed various from 9mph to 17mph.

The roads are from your normal 50 to 40mph A roads to one way streets with 20mph restriction.

With lots of stop/start driving you'll be needing new rear tyres pretty regularly.

My C63 would do 9 through London and 22 on a very gentle run. Normal average about 15 so not surprised at your mpg for driving in London

Your mpg is exactly what I would expect in local London, stop-start driving. I used to use an E55 W210 for school run duties and would despair at seeing 9mpg for cold start, 4 mile round trip stop-start journeys.

My 5.5 litre S500 (not an AMG) averaged just 13mpg over 3 years, at an average speed of 9mph in the hands of it's Central London Embassy owner. In my hands it averages 28mpg, and leads a much more interesting, less congested life.

When I picked up my E500 the first drive was two hours across London in heavy traffic, I averaged 14mpg. I wondered what I had left myself in for being used to a V6 diesel, but it get better as long as you take it out of town on a few decent runs.

My average is now 25mpg.

Girl I bought the car from had only used in in London town - when I test drove it the long term average was showing 17 mpg.

I’m averaging c20 in mine which is a 5.5 V8 bi turbo compared with c18 in my previous NA SL500 5.5V8
And I travel more briskly in the 63 too!

Doesn’t sound like an unlikely MPG figure OP.

I have a CLS63 (6.2) and on a steady 65mph journey I got 26mpg. I haven’t done heavy traffic but if it is a bit more stop start it’ll drop to 12mpg if there’s even the extra pressure on the throttle.

AMGs are epic but for their fuel consumption I’d consider AMG standing for Absolute Money Guzzler haha

I've had the chance to play with it quite a lot more. I've managed to get 20+mpg on a very long roundtrip to Edinburgh, even with high motorway speeds. 71 mph of course, no more.

In the city, I'm beginning to come to terms with it more. MPGs and old granny driving seem to work very well together, if I let the car "roll" a lot in traffic, somewhat to the slight dismay of people behind me, I get as much as 15 - 16 mpg in light to medium traffic. It has become the new daily fun challenge for city driving, getting the most MPG. Can't really have fun in Central with the AMG side of things, so going for the mpg side.

Fortunately I rarely go through intensive nerve wrecking start stop driving even through Central London as I leave for work before sunrise and return long after sundown, so I've got a good strategy to avoid the peak points.

Mine is a 4.7 BT and averaging 24mpg. I do mostly "combined".

Figures stated seem fairly typical to me.

Just flip the display on the car to the "MPG" meter and see how often it stays at the left even on light acceleration.

Shifting 2 tons around is never going to be economical using ICE.

First run back from Scunthorpe to Newcastle, after picking car up, rain and quite heavy traffic managed 27mpg in the E63 over 120 miles.

18 to 22mpg in short runs to work, 22 to 26 on steady runs over 25 miles or more.....on one 11 mile run relaxed run the oil didn't come out of the blue until 10 miles in....

AMG mode you can reduce all these ;););)
