AMG Private number plates

Does anyone have a feel as to how in demand these are? I'm currently selling my ML63 and wondering if I wouldn't be better off selling the private plate I have on it seperately. Any thoughts much appreciated!

Registration numbers without prefix or suffix letters/numbers are usually more valuable. I have two cherished reg no's three figures, two letters but the value of them is lower than it would have been a few years ago. If you have a reg with AMG on it it may be better to see how much it would sell for, especially if you are selling your ML!

It's only worth anything at all if someone wants it and the majority of the ones you see advertised in those big lists usually have silly prices and will never sell. Even with a sensible price tag you may well be stuck with it as there might only be one other person in the country who may like that combination and even then they've got to know it's available and actually want it.

No mate Regtransfers valued it around that price if I ever want to sell it

I'd be tempted to say it's by separate negotiation and then when you're closing the deal on the car and potential buyer negotiates to chip away at the price, offer your number plate as part of the deal to reduce cash reduction.

I think it might take ages to sell and you'd be disappointed with what you'd get for it.

I've managed to snap up...

ML63 AMG
SL63 AMG
CL63 AMG

All ready for the sept if anyone is interested.

(I wish....!)

Not to burst your bubble but that's my point exactly.

I should be able to retire then on what my plates are worth if that's worth £5k

I have KP07HRN which is worth at least ten grand if you're a seven year old heron which like peanuts.
Otherwise it's worth sweet fa

I have F5 AMG ang it's worth around 5 Grand

Ho ho ho - I fell for them some years ago - fabulous riches offered followed by a million unsolicited e-mails.

...and my number is even better than Howard's ;):D

Just having a look at DVLA's site

all the xx63AMG plates are £799 except CL63AMG, GL63AMG and ML63AMG which are going to auction in September (fittingly at MB Brooklands) and have a reserve of £1500

SS63AMG and SL63AMG seem to be sold?

Thanks for the feedback guys, some useful advice. Yes, given its somewhat niche nature I can imagine that it wouldn't be a quick sale, that's for sure.

~£150 [if I recall] to have it on retention for three years just seems a tad excessive doesn't it!

I assume yours is the ML63 up for sale in Harrogate?

Looks a good example...

From DVLA's site

Retaining a registration number

If you’re the registered keeper of a vehicle, you can apply to remove a registration number from the vehicle and hold it on a retention document (V778) for 1, 2 or 3 years.
You can retain the registration number in your name or someone else’s name. This costs:
  • £105 for 1 year
  • £130 for 2 years
  • £155 for 3 years
You can pay the £105 then pay £25 every year you keep it retained. If you pay £155 for 3 years and put it on a vehicle after a year, there is no refund

As above, most of it is actually the fee for putting it on another vehicle which you have to pay upfront first. A lot of people who advertise plates themselves say they will add the transfer fee they've already paid to the price.

To be honest about your AMG plate, the OP's not the other one, if you put it up for sale at £150-200 you may well get a bite quite quickly from someone who just fancies an AMG plate, if you look at the number of rubbish NI plates that people insist on buying it's the price that is the biggest factor. It's the ones that have to mean something to warrant the extra that sit around forever.
