Another scam but what a lovely car !!

One of the nicest cars MB ever made IMHO........what would the "real" price of a little gem like this be??

I thought these scams were by someone that hijacked an identity.

I actually asked a question via the proper route, but I still got a reply back from the scammer? 'What's my name, address etc'

I'm not going to do that again!!

John

It's so easy to be an arm chair critic, but I feel that Ebay could do so much more to get rid of these evil parasites.

I tried to sell one of the kid's games consoles recently and had 18 spam questions from buyers and the ultimate buyer was non existent and registered in China.

E-bay's reaction to all the spam and the non-sale has been dismal. Really dismal. Their "reporting" process on the website I find painful.

Buyer beware and seller beware

Have you forwarded that to eBay? I know it looks obvious to you and me, but there are poeple who are taken in by these things, and I've never seen that kind of email before.

Check to see if the email is in your 'Messages' - 'inbox' on the 'My ebay' page...i think that only genuine messages from ebay can appear there.

Hi Guys,
I have indeed wrote to ebay, but I will not be holding my breath on any result!!!

I totally agree that to the less 'street wise' person this message sounds quite convincing BUT........ the real address of this scam post is:

eBay Safety Department

<[email protected]>

Note the ebay is before the @ sign.

I have not checked my ebay in-box simply because.....

I do not believe ittttt!!! :D :D

I do however feel it contemptable that ebay do not take stronger action to eradicate this type of scam\scum!

Thank you very much indeed for the advice.

Regards
John

I have just been re-assured by ebay   :D

Thank you for writing to eBay. My name is Morwen and I appreciate the chance to assist you regarding the communication partner warning you received from eBay.

I certainly understand your concern regarding this situation. I have checked your account and I assure you that there are no problems with your account at this time. I can confirm that eBay sent you the email to
warn you about dealing with a particular member. We suspect they may have asked other eBay members to buy or sell items outside the security of the eBay website. Please do not respond to any further communication you receive from this member.

As you know, we strongly discourage buying and selling outside eBay. Off-eBay purchases are not protected by our feedback and buyer protection programmes. To find out more, copy the link below into a new browser window:

I would like to think they would have given me a contact address to speak to 'Morwen' but they just offered a link to the Do's and Don'ts section.

They quite clearly FAILED to read the e-mail I sent. It was allegedly from ebay and actually RECOMMENDED I contact this thief!! In the 'Details' section of properties the sender of the false ebay message actually had a yahoo address but ebay are not interested and have NOT asked for any details. SHAME on them.

This thread is highlighting how dangerous trading on ebay can be. Most members of this forum have bucket loads of experience when buying or selling, but the less fortunate can loose out BIG time!

I bought an SLK from a dealer at the weekend and had to telephone him for the registration number as all of the number plates on his website are covered over. He told me that he had to do this to stop people lifting the photos for their own Ebay ads in order to sell cars that they don't have.

It would seem that the scammers would take the £500 deposit at the end of the auction prior to disappearing.

"Any email that looks as if it is from eBay, mentions a problem with your account or requests personal information, and is not in my messages in My eBay, is a spoof (fake) email".
We are all in agreement with you on this issue, BUT in my opinion it is WRONG to simply use this as a cop out!! People are getting rich by BRAZEN ILLEGAL activity and for ebay to simply say it is unnaceptable, is in my opinion UNACCEPTABLE!

Here is the latest reply from ebay:

Hello,

Thank you for writing back to us. My name is Aileen and I appreciate you
taking the time to report to us the email you received from
"dottie1107". I understand the email claims to be from eBay.

We take reports of members breaking our rules very seriously.

We'll investigate your report as soon as possible, usually within 24
hours. If necessary we'll take appropriate action against this member
(e.g. a warning or suspension) to ensure eBay remains a safe and
reputable place to buy and sell. However, as it's important that eBay
maintains member privacy, we can't share details of the action we take.

We know your time is valuable and we appreciate you taking a moment to
express your concern to us. Please continue to inform us whenever you
have any cause for suspicion. Thank you for helping to keep eBay a safe,
fun place to buy and sell.

Kind regards,

Aileen Ewans

It is me doing the work, it is me supplying the information, but it is ebay that is geeting rich, plus of course all the illegal scammers!!!

Ebay (and paypal) NEVER READ your email!

I sent about 20 emails to paypal about a problem with a withdrawal (i accidently withdraw into the wrong bank account - bank account number didnt exist (confirmed via my bank) and they said it would bounce back to paypal and confirmed it did) and they kept on either repeating advice (something i had already done after a previous email) or just a stupid standard email telling me how to view my transaction history! The "missing" money never re-appeard in my paypal account.

i even listed a bullet-pointed list of what i had done so far to make it clear to them and even then they told me to either do stuff i had already listed i had done in the bullet points or told me how to click "history" and "search" in my paypal history!

I gave up in the end and am now £200 out of pocket because of it, but i was wasting SOOOO much time trying to get thru to them it wasnt worth the effort, even for that amount of money!

i confirm that...ebay never reads anything, they just provided "standard-answer-questions".

altough, paypal sometimes reads e-mails.. they already resolved me a problem..but i had 2 send like 4 emails sayin the same thing

There's a 1960 190SL in red/tan on Autotrader for £29,950. The price varies a lot according to condition.
Stunning cars.
