Anti-McLaren / Pro Ferrari strip Lewis of win

How old are you????????????????

[monza anorak mode]they put the chicanes into Monza in the 1930's :)

ok they took them out again but I think they were reinstated in the very early seventies [/monza anorak mode]

I must stress I only know this because I was involved with building some 3D models of the track for a race simulator :)

Andy
Both Monza and Silverstone were mind blowing, fast circuits, and as far as I can recall it was indeed the seventies that gradually saw these slowy downy thingies creep into the formula.

Yes I can remember the good old days of racing when competitors actually respected each other but raced each race as though it were their last.

It was very different at the tracks in the 70s as a spectator also, you could get right up to the action, give any health and safety bod a heart attack.

I wonder what odds William Hill would quote you for the result of the hearing?

These are my estimates/guesses.................

Evens = result stands and Hamilton retains 3rd position

10 to 1 against = Hamilton regains full winner status

Anybody else care to hazard a guess ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

I wonder if anyone would even take a bet on Hamilton reganing full winner status:confused:

I used to love standing at Becketts with just a small fence that was extremely ricketty. As you say happy days and they were certainly NOT rose tinted glasses.

I would thoroughly recommend folks look on Youtube and enjoy the races that took place in the early seventies. It was not unknown for the lead to change at least two or three times on the last lap!

Yes, John, but we lost so many drivers in those days.
I miss when cars were designed for the eye instead of just for the wind.

Despite a scintillating come-from-behind performance today I think LH made few friends & garnered few new fans.

His uncompromising driving, being prepared to punt Weber into the scenary rather than let him pass, reminds me of a young Schumacher who would kill an opponent rather than let them by.

Even Martin Brundle had a bit of a go at him over that one.

did the same to glock as well even though, in glocks case it may well have been the spray.

who reckons redbull may switch to ferrari power next year

I gave him the benefit of the doubt in Glock's case, even though I'm pretty sure he knew the other car was there. That situation had plausible deniability.

The Weber incident was dangerous, ruthless & deliberate.

On of the commentators said not a single driver supported LH in his chicane appeal. I think he's an unliked & unpopular young man within his peer group.

well they never asked heikki did they? and i cannot remember many drivers liking top car drivers anyway.

senna, schumacher, hakinnen, coulthard, hill

And for drivers to relocate to the cemetery every 2 or 3 times a year
I think we are over exaggarating the death toll and yes I agree no death is nice but compare the fatalities to wnen we had a fishing industry or for you and your colleagues that enjoy poilice bashing.... ;)

Motor racing is a dangerous sport and should be treated with respect, I could argue that we see modern drivers punting each other off because they know it is not likely to harm anyone. Yesteryears drivers pushed themselves to limits we mere mortals could never possibly hop to attain, whereas a modern driver can exceed his limits without fear of harm unless they are unlucky.

The hakinnen/coultard incident is only teammates doing what they felt right. The team did not influence the decision and Coulthard was given the winners bonus, not Mika for that race.

Oh no it wasn't!! :D

Did you hear the interview given by David Coulthard?

He quite clearly staed:
The team suggested the first driver to exit the first bend should then not be raced by their team-mate. Both drivers agreed to this 'suggestion', shook hands and the rest is history.

The decision definitely effected the result because of a mishap and Coulthard kept his word and allowed Mikka to go by. ;)

Not sure i have ever bashed the police here. I have stated my personal experience of the police and the justice system.:D
Do you want me to come and lie here and say oh no the police were very good to me when they were not?

same as the manual bashers on here. I have had four autos all have been unreliable and rubbish in my hands. personal experience says i will never buy one again, meanwhile all the manual bashers are hell bent on convincing me that autos are better.
personal experience mate, not daily mail extracts here

anyway back on topic. not exaggerating with those figures.
between 70- 74 i have counted 7 dead drivers. average of?

You have to go back a few years to see that age old chivalry and respect.

The last drivers that showed that was....................... Senna and Berger. Yes Senna was ruthless to a degree but even when Berger raced for a different team they were true friends and always shook hands before a race and enjoyed each others company afterwards. When Barrichello had his really nasty accident, it was Senna that sat by his bedside and they were not team-mates.

John

Was Coulthard ever a top driver?

he was when he was with Mclaren. at least for a period he was qualifying and finishing in the points.
if lewis is classified as a top driver now, then david was certainly one
