Oh .. so a law un to themselves? Scary thought, just like the Spanish Inquisition.

Sorry,,it wasnt Alonso this time was it?!

It's a very closed shop, I work in motorsport at quite a senior level in other formulas and the FIA F1 codes are a very closely guarded document. I had a friend who was a race engineer with one of the F1 teams and even he was not of a senior level to have access to the drivers race rules and regulations only the engineering rules, regs and specifications, as you say quite scary really, law unto themselves?

this ones doing the rounds - I thought I'd share :)

Got a Ferrari?

Not quite good enough at driving?

Are other boys faster than you in the wet?

Then you need:

Anti overtaking assurance
Been overtaken? Feel a bit silly? Don't worry, we'll rule out the other party even if it embarrassingly obvious that they're faster than you

Exclusive access to a secret "second lane" in the pits
Just to make things a little bit easier we've arranged a private second lane just for you

Guaranteed world championship?

A bit strapped? Need extra cash?
Simply get one of your team to tell someone else how you make your cars. We'll guarantee a $100,000,000 windfall so that the rich get richer!

Bits falling off your car? Looking a bit dangerous?
At Ferrari International Assistance we operate a "blind eye" policy just for Ferrari drivers

Been a bit silly? Taken off another driver whilst following the safety car?
It's ok, as long as you didn't hurt yourself. I mean, who are Force India anyway? And how dare they be in front of you

A bit bored? Want some extra action?
With FIA plus you can take part in a number of additional membership activities including the popular "kill your pit crew" game

Not sure when you might need us next?

Ferrari International Assistance - Making it up as we go along for over 100 years

Somewhere in this fiasco the stewards lost sight of what the whole thing is about. Part of the weirdness is the way the decision appears to have been represented. They were allowed to think too long and lost their sense of perspective.

Don't forget, it was a Sunday....... It takes longer to get your Bank Statements, doesn't it??? :D

Brilliant,
Did they 'barge' their way onto the 'board'

Just a couple of quotes from "impartial" FIA President:

Asked if Ferrari are more important to F1 than any other team - “Yes,” he replied. “Firstly, because it holds a historically important position, as the team has been involved in Formula 1 since 1950. The second point has something to do with existential orientation; imagine there were only one British team and all other teams were Italian, that the commercial rights-holder was Italian, as was the FIA President, the race director and his assistant and the sport's commissioner. Wouldn't it be understandable that this team would be very careful?”

“I use my neutrality with a huge amount of responsibility and stay in close contact with Ferrari to assure them that no British ‘mafia' or cartel tries to take advantage of them.”

I have no axe to grind about any team, but these were comments made after the "Stepney-gate" saga of last year in an interview on the official F1 site. It's one thing to have such views privately, but to openly express them surely confirms what observers have often speculated upon - that certain teams received preferential treatment compared to others.

However, his statement doesn't add up factually either:

Ferrari - Italian
BMW Sauber - Swiss
ING Renault - French
Williams - GB
Red Bull - GB
Toyota - Japanese
Torro Rosso - Italian
Honda - Japanese
Super Aguri - Japanese
Force India - not sure
McLaren Mercedes - GB

I make that 3 GB, 3 Japanese, 2 Italian, 1 French, 1 Swiss and 1 other. By Mosley's logic there should be special care taken of BMW, Renault and Force India rather than Ferrari....

If MM stands down next year will anyone bet on Todt not taking over? And any odds on where Mosley will take up an executive directorship?

Some whip and torture emporium in Bangkok!  :D

Last I heard was that McLaren have now officially appealed the decision, can we confirm this?

I bet Hamilton gets a really friendly reception at this next Grand Prix:devil:

It would certainly help their appeal if they had some form of record of that - in fact it would be open and shut.
Straight after the race Ron Dennis was interviewed and he openly stated he had spoken to Charlie Whiting confirming the legitimately of Hamilton allowing the Ferrari to retake the lead. I have no idea if the radio conversations between teams and officials are recorded but I cannot imagine Ron Dennis making up a story and then going public with it. Mr Dennis did state the Charlie did emphasis that he was not speaking on behalf of the stewards and they might disagree.

I had a long, considered, intellectually reasoned diatribe about this situation. However, I'll just play my American card.

Horsesh*t.

It should have been Lewis' race, if only for being able to do that in the rain.

Until it was vetoed, it was the best bit of F1 I've seen.

Not "it should have been".................IT WAS.

Despite evrything that many have thrown, you cant take it away from the guy.

HE drove everyone into a cocked hat.

HE won the race.

HE is currently the BEST F1 driver in the world.

No matter what 3 faceless dictators may conspire to postulate after the event.

I think all that anyone wants to see in any sport is good competition resulting in the best winning. Currently in F1 this is being artificially quoshed. If only those concerned could see past their pockets.

That maybe is heart of the the problem. Charlie Whiting can render an opinion in his capacity as a very experienced race controller while the less experienced stewards end up making the official decision.

I still reckon that the stewards have ended up being a bit naive and have trawled the rules looking to see how to deal with this and ended up fixating on the simplest application in isolation of the bluntest rule. Maybe they thought it would get them off the hook whatever the outcome.

By the "end of the month" according to ITV F1; which leaves it hanging rather too long for LH for my liking. However it also leaves all the teams in uncertainty:rolleyes:

Not so bad..it builds the tension and uncertainty....so long as it ends up going Lewis' way, I don't mind. Can you imagine how bad it would be if this was strung out past the last race 'F1 title decided in the courtroom'...not how Lewis would like to be crowned.
