Or anyone that knows the laws regarding the monitoring/tracking of vehicles

Our company has recently started to really penny pinch, making us put down to the exact minute of leaving in the morning, arriving home etc. This is fine, as what this will do is cost them slightly more as in general we would all round the times, I.e if we left at 06:58 to get to site for 8am, we'd put travel time 07:00-08:00.

We are all site based, we have regional offices which we go to every now and then, but it is 90% satellite work so we go straight to our jobs. Deductions wise or mileage and commute time, they will take a maximum of 26 miles each way, and the commute time of our home address to our designated office from us

For example, I'm 30 minutes from the office, 31 miles away. So I'll get deducted 1h hour each day, and and pay £0.13 per mile (VW Transporter, it's £0.10 for a VW Caddy) They've 'capped' this for unfortunate employees who live ages away from the office, to 26 miles each way and 45 minutes deduction each way. So maximum deduction is 90minutes travel, 52 miles to pay

All our vans (and cars) are installed with RAC+ advanced trackers or whatever they're called. We have no button function to press when using them privately (I have my van set to personal use also, so I pay whatever it is per year/month additional) Am I right in thinking work vans should have the buttons fitted so they can't monitor private use? Obviously we are obligated to still input our private mileage for that use, but I've tried researching this and it says there should be a privacy button

Does any of this sound right or make any sense? Hope I've explained it properly, we have a contract and an 'employee handbook' which they will strictly refer to when we have any questions, but this book is digital and updated quite regularly so most of us haven't a clue what is really going on here

I am not a fleet manager. But my understanding is:

a) This kind of 'management' is becoming the norm rather than the exception.
b) If your company own the vehicle and allow you use of it to do your job and allow 'private' use? It is their vehicle and therefore their rules, to enforce as and how they choose, so long as they are not breaking any HMRC rules.

Cheers guys, I definitely won't be jamming anything. Just more wondering about the private mileage button

We have recently purchased out another company, the new employees had buttons in their vehicles for private use at their old company so us remaining guys are just seeing if that's the case across the board in general. Our company is known to get these things wrong and try and change things later on when people notice something is amiss
