Anyone got a video, ideally?

Really really really tempted. My last Audi you could hear coming from a mile away and although this is a bit excessive for the Merc I would like a bit more agressive noise.

I understand I can remove the resonator, the secondary cats or both - thoughts?

I'll bet you were really popular with the neighbours.

The guy with the 8 litre 1951 Chevy, yeah. And the Golf GTi driver down the road. The others, eh, not so much.

I'm a considerate neighbour but I put up with their cats scratching my bonnet so they put up with a 5 pot rumble :D

I take your point but I think you have me confused with someone who thinks a back box goes well on a 1.2 Saxo - it was more Walter Rohrl than Tim Westwood.

Dont know what set up you have at present but previous owner stuck an amg style rear box on mine and its makes a very nice noise, not that loud but barks when shifting.

I think Howard has the proper amg box on his clk and he also reckons it sounds good.

But i bet they would sound even better with the centre silence removed:devil:.

I think if you remove the resonator and secondary cats you will get a lovely sound. Do both!

slightly different layout but iv removed my center box on my W202 c180 and put an after market back box on!

I put an AMG 'accessory' back box on my R129 and it made virtually no difference to the sound (but it does have nice AMG tailpipes).

I then removed the centre muffler, which made a surprisingly slight difference. It's definitely a step in the right direction but I would personally like a little more rumble still.

I would do the centre muffler as it's a simple & cheap mod., then see what you think.

Of course any exhaust mods need to be declared as far as insurance goes.

"centre muffler", is different to both resonator and secondary cats?

I'm starting with a reasonably nice noise so don't think it needs drastic action, just want to add 10% :D

I think a wee trip to a Powerflow agent is in order. Just have to wait out this miserable weather.

Not sure what you mean by resonator then!

My exhaust system had:

For each cylinder bank: downpipe, front cat, secondary cat
Then a centre muffler (two pipes in at the front, one pipe out at the back)
Then the back box

The centre muffler is now replaced by a Y piece in stainless steel tube.

That's what I meant, does resonator = centre muffler :)

Gonna do it I think, it's reversible and not expensive.

Video to follow (in April at this rate)...

:D

Cheers all

I had it done by Longlife Exhausts in Wallington - £129 and about 90 mins while I waited.

Done it to mine removed resonator (Centre Muffler).
Made it sound slightly louder.

I have seen and heard a couple of SL55 where they have had the rear boxes made smaller and this gave them a louder deeper exhaust note
