Hi all

I was wondering if someone with a W202 could do me a favour and check whether they have a drain hole in the same place as me, or I have a missing grommet (which could lead to rot)!

Whilst changing the front brakes on my car (C43), I noticed that there is a 20mm hole inside the front, left/passenger-side wheel arch, in the metalwork between the wheel and the engine bay. Looking directly into the arch, its located to the right of the front spring, near the bottom of the metal work.

All other holes in that area have grommets in, so Im wondering if mine has gone missing (there has been work done in that area in the past). I dont want to cap it off and then find its a rainwater drain hole, but from reading around it appears that these are generally under the sills, rather than in the wheel arch.

Id be really grateful if anyone could have a look at their W202 - though I appreciate its not easy to see with the wheel still on

Thanks for any help!

Im not quite sure which bit your talking about, can you take a photo?

You could try pouring water on the screen and see if water trickles out? Wont help if it's blocked of course!

Hi KillerHERTZ, Ill give it a go (not uploaded photo before).

As you can see from the pic, I already put a grommet in the hole before realising it might not be a good idea :wallbash: WOuld be easy enough to remove though.

Thanks in advance for any help (and apologies if the attachment doesn;t work!).

Whitenemesis - thanks for the reply - Im pretty sure Ive read that the windscreen drains though a hole under the sill, which is why I whacked a grommet in this hole. However, Im now concerned it was a drain for something else (such as the sunroof).

I'm on phone at mo so can't really see but that looks like oil, not water!

Heh heh - no thats new stonechip paint.

So what happened was... :)

Im going for a disc change, then spot that the stonechip paint over the grommet down and to the RIGHT of the one with the arrow has lifted/split, and its started to corrode around it. So I whip that grommet out, clean up the rust, and am just about to re stonechip when I notice the other hole with the arrow. So I whack a grommet in that and then stonechip the lot.

There was no sign of anything ever having run out of the hole with the arrow against it.

Hi,
Now I can see where you mean I,ll have a look on my 43 this morning and see if I have this hole on mine, have you the same hole on the other side of the car?

Hi Andy!
Brilliant - thank you :)
No such hole on other side on mine.

Anyone?

I have a rubber plug that plugs the same hole as yours, my car is a 1994.

Thanks Dec, its not nice weather for peering under a car - much appreciated!

Mine looks different (late 99 C43) but it's all plugged up... ;)

Thanks all - thats a concensus.
I shall try not to worry about how much water might have got in there before I plugged the hole...
