Approaching MB with a new idea

It's not just having a good idea - it's being able to sell it to the decision-makers.... Could you believe that Xerox invented both the PC and the mouse and did not have the vision to bring them to market......?

Do take care if you think it really does have legs.

My Dad once came up with an idea and built a prototype, and subsequently sent designs to a couple of manufacturers in the field. Thanks but no thanks.

Some years later, one of the two - a leading brand in fact - came out with a product based on that design. Really should have followed up.

I knew that xerox invented the GUI ....but didn't know they invented the PC and the mouse...I thought the first PC came from Apple in 1976 and the mouse by Douglas Engelbart in 1961....

The Xerox Alto (1972) was an earlier PC, some argue it was the first. Apparently, they are worth a few dollars now!!

A quick way to get something in writing and documented is to draw out your idea/design in detail and using a royal mail Special delivery envelope, mail it to yourself and leave it sealed.

This is by no means watertight and is really only a starting point, but it is accepted at least as proof of your idea/design and a recorded date of when you had the idea etc....

Then proceed as required with patents lawyers and secrecy agreements to make things as watertight as possible.

When driving through London seeing parked vans with their hazards on and not knowing if they are parked or pulling out (because I could only see the outside lights due to parked cars) -- I thought that all cars / vans should have double hazards / indicators so that when indicating both upper and lower flashed as one but when operated as a hazard warning they alternated......Never did present that to anyone so if any manufacturers like the idea feel free ... just make a donation to my favourite charity ........................ME..:D
Good one Crockers.

Mine would be a new light on the rear of cars to signify that they wish to reverse into a parking space. How often someone pulls up ahead of a space ready to back up, amd someone follows up close behind them so they cannot.
