Hi,

How do I know if the rear clusters are led? It's a 2002 model 270cdi pre face lift.

Is there a way I can check the spec sheet by vin /reg

Thanks

Not too sure about pre facelifts, but all facelifts have them as far as i know. Best thing to do to find out is to look very closely at the clusters. If it just looks like a red cover, they won't be LEDs. But if you can see a matrix of red dots upon close inspection, then they will be.

Also, the LED brake lights are very very bright. If you look on your mirror at night while braking, you will see you're lighting up the area. Hope this helps.

If I was you I would have someone sit in the driver's seat and operate the brake pedal whilst you are looking at the the brake lights...then as above. Is this a trick question?

Actually it's the other way round. Pre facelifts are led. Facelift cars went back to standard lights.

um... nope.... I have 'regular' bulbs (if you can call them regular while they are soldered in their place without possibility to change them). I am also inclined to believe most facelifts have leds and older cars have bulbs (many pre-facelift owner have changed them to leds... this is also issue in prefacelift CLS model where retrofitted LED lights are needing special adapter)

I had a 2002 W211 and I believe that the brake lights were LED but the rest of the light cluster, indicators, rear lights etc were standard bulbs.

My E class has night light sensors to tone down the brightness of braking at night, in order not to dazzle following vehicles. I imagine eventually they will be standard on all classes.Hope so.:dk:

Is that part of the "intelligent light system" that most of the new mercs have? I knew about the automatic dimming of LED headlight high beams, but didn't know it did the same at the rear. W211 is far too old a design to benefit from that.

My pre-facelift definitely has LED brake lights (only brake lights - indicators and reversing are bulbs).

I understood this was standard across W211 - certainly for pre-facelift anyway.

My recollection is that in the pre-facelift they were standard on the AvantGarde and Sport versions - but that the Classic and Elegance had bulbs.

Hi Guys Thanks for all the info. I will check it today.

Best Regards

BROOKS 22,
Don't know if its all part of intelligent light system, I have it on my E coupe and assumed it was the norm.
