Artics in lane three

how are you in charge when you are snoring at the back seat.

By being in sole possession of the keys according to the officer who threatened my boss with the charge when he unlocked his car (he was on a drink ban and well known) until he noticed I was getting in the drivers side and had another set of keys.

Probably not allowed BUT hey he was doing no harm in the circumstances.

Off Topic: One thing I cannot stand are supergrasses!!! I have a fleet of eight 7.5T lorries sign written with my company details and get silly calls all the time from the public. One day a driver let us down and we were short staff so I eneded up on the road and to cut the story short had a little unprovoked encounter with a car and I did nothing wrong. When i got back to the office and was sat at my desk I got a call from the "idiot" (who had got my company details from the lorry - he asked to speak to the boss and made up a fabricated fictional story... 0 little did he know I was the comapny owner;) - I asked for his details and got his name and address and said we would fully investigate the incident and take servere action against the driver and I turned up on his door step...

I really do not understand this. are we saying it is okay to break the law as long as we do not hurt anybody? i mean the guy doing 40 in a 30 will tell you he is not hurting anybody. likewise the guy using a phone or not wearing his seatbelt or undertaking furiously.
it is the law. never mind if you are hurting anyone or not.
insurance and tax dodgers never hurt anyone too.
If you do not want any nasty calls, then avoid road rage as much as possible

wheres john when you need him?

On the spot he called me all sorts of names and remarks and threatened to do all sorts to me and I just ignored him. Look at it this way, the story he made up was so untrue and he could easily have got a innocent driver sacked who too would have a family to support and look after?!

May be now he will think twice before doing anything like that again. I simply confronted him and made him look stupid and left afterwards BUT yes he was shocked! – I even have had calls from people complaining that a lorry suddenly breaked too hard (which was due to the vehicle in front breaking suddenly). Got another call telling me that a tail light was not working and driver did not let them pull out of junction in slow moving traffic… (list is endless...).

There are two on this thread that think we should mind our own business what a couple of idiots.

Do you not read the papers about a couple of parents so called (grassing) on there kids, one with a gun that could have killed somebody and the two low life that nearly killed that bloke and bragged about it.

No wonder the country is in such a state and what a pathetic attitude ( don't grass on people)

:confused::confused::confused:

When i worked for a small removal company we got this all the time Flash , so i can sympathise with you ...

We just fobbed them off , and had a good giggle at the nonsense they spouted.

On my last day before i left i was driving a large bodied seven and a half tonner through the Kingston one way system , when a little chav in a black escort tried to cut me up on the inside on a tight bend in order to get in front of me , ordinarily i would have tried my best to avoid him but long story short , his car came off worse ;)

I have a business to run and not got time for stupid members of the public telling tales that are minor and rediculous or not true related to my fleet of lorries BUT always do have to investigate.

Hi,

I thought it was up to the police 'to police' and in non-police situations isn't it "one person's word v t'other" cf that stupid web site which allows anybody to input another driver's reg no. etc.

Let's get real here if we 'grassed' up everyone doing 32 in a 30 then we would have to have quadruple the police force (assuming they would act on info anyway) numbers....also sometimes doing 25 in a 30 can be more dangerous (school entrance etc.).

The actual 'grassing up' cases were pretty serious...but imho 'grassing up' for 'petty' things is just...petty.

Cheers,

Professional drivers should maintain professional standards. Sitting behind two trucks for 11 miles while they try to pass each other, getting cut across when one pulls out without indicating, all common but terrible behaviour.

Saw the worst ever on Friday morning - I was behind an old slow driver in a saab on a single carriageway A road, double deck bus behind me a few feet off my back bumper, dual carriageway starts and the bus pulls out and overtakes only to cut in front of the saab to take the first exit.

The only time I've ever complained about a driver it was a bus.
He undertook going over a set of lights where the lanes merged afterwards forcing me over into the next lane, only there was no room to go into. If I had I would've knocked at least a coupe of cars over into the oncoming traffic.
First time I ever used BAS..and it worked...

I'm not talking about us being level going over the lights, he came fast from some distance behind and when I 'had a word' he said it was legal to do that and was totally blaze about it, so I reported him.

What a shame the General Manager of the bus firm picked up the phone..

Was OP using a mobile to take pictures of the lorry while driving?

technically OP has breached the using a mobile phone whilst driving as he was stationary in a queue of traffic, which is an offence.

Looks like lane one was shut so technically the HGV is OK. But must move over into lane 2 before the 3 lanes come back into force otherwise he would be breaking the law.

Lane 1 was queuing for the exit.

Whose to say the truck hadn't simply crossed lanes earlier to avoid something, and got stuck not being able to pull back in (Not easy in a vehicle that size...).

Circumstance is everything - he'd know full well he was breaking the law, and being sat in still traffic would no doubt not have been an ideal place to be for trying it on... it's the same as using a phone to take a photo in still traffic - even if seen by the police, I doubt anything would have been done.

I'd not have done anything in this case - if he was cruising along at 60 in smooth traffic causing tailbacks, that would be a different story! ;)

I say forgive the poor chap lol

I drove an artic for donkeys years and never once used the outside (of a three lane) road unless there were roadworks on the inside thus allowing me to do so. There are reasons these laws are in place but some people always assume they don't apply to them.

Why are we discussing "grassing up"... isnt that a term used by gangsters who turn states evidence....

Speaking of speaking to the boss! ;)

John

But I was eloquent and accurate. My concern was for their passengers as well as other road users and lastly the companies insurance premiums.

Of course we only have Flash's side of that story as well.

Well, he could of been stuck between a rock and a hard place, held up in traffic watching precious driving minutes tick away. Those minutes could of been the difference between getting home legally, or a night out on a weekend to stay legal. What to do, try and jump the que to avoid that nightout, or que and risk a bollocking from the Boss/missus for not getting back, or risk going over time and getting back anyway, and a bollocking from the Boss all the same:rolleyes: and some attention from VOSA if the matter came to light:eek: , choices, choices, it does'nt make it right I know, and its not something I would condone:D, anyway he may have been east european (Culina employ several), and they're allowed to, apparently
