Artics in lane three

I absolutely hate Elephant racing when it isn't done properly, also the bullying you get from some lorry drivers, I even nearly had a massive moment on the A14 once when a lorry decided I wasn't overtaking him and pulled out anyway, causing a spin in the outside lane of the A14 at 6pm on a monday. I infact ended up sliding down the Hemmingford grey turnoff.

But, what if for some reason the lorry felt that it was safer to move into lane 3 than it was to maybe say slam the brakes on if he knew he had a car or other lorry right up his bum?
What if he needed to dodge some debris and instead of just blocking 2 lanes he moved over completely as it was safer?

Benefit of the doubt needs to be given, if they take the mick then yes, shop them, but unless you know the whole sequence of events then let them be.

Dave!

Also, shop them and provide your photographic evidence, then sit back and wait to receive YOUR 3 points and £60 fine.

If we 'shop' the truck driver then where are all the photgraphs of cars exceeding the legal speed limit. I'm not perfect and confess to breaking the odd motoring law, and is this a case of stones in greenhouses? By all means shop the truck driver if you are perfect.

John the not quite perfectionist

Ok, I can shop the driver then - as I am, I'm sure you will agree, perfectly perfect! :D :p

You are indeedy doodle dandy.

The perfect prefect

Ford Prefect:devil: :D

Oh..... Hang on. If you were perfect then you would be coming to sunny Torquay the last week-end in August!

Nope,
You are not the perfect prefect and you may not rat fink on anyone.

Regards
John

Dave!

Very sensible words my friend. As a former artic driver myself all I can say is the majority of motorists have no idea how hard a job it is until they've been behind the wheel of one. Also, if you have an a***hole transport manager who's constantly on at you on the phone and breathing down your neck it get's extremely stressful however there is no excuse for bad manners on the road as they can be extremely hazardous when not driven with due care and attention.

My dad always used to pull out in front of artics (or any HGV's for that matter) and never showed them respect whilst on the road. It wasn't until I took him out on a run with me that he actually seen how stressful the job can be with long hour's, a***hole boy racers and bloody minded motorists to contend with. Now he let's them out at junctions and has an understanding of what it's like. In the end I chose to work nights all the time coz half the morons are off the road by then and it made my life so much simpler but i'd never go back to it now.

I lost counts how many times I observed Belgrian registered artic drove on the fast lane at more than 70mph on two lanes A12 on the way to Felixstowe/Harwich.

When I had my old Peugeot, on a drive back from Waterbeach one night very late on the A1M I had an articulated lorry recover lorry overtake me.

I was doing an indicated 85MPH, seeing 35tons of lorry with the cab on the ack of the recovery lorry doing over an indicated 85 was absolutely amazing. All 3 axles were down on the trailer so I presume it was fully laden.

I wouldn't have wanted to witness an emergency stop mind you :D

Dave!

I think that the problem here is one of size.

Drivers of all types of vehicle do silly things sometimes and most go unoticed, who would know if a car displaying 'L' plates on the motorway was being driven illegally by a learner driver or legally by a qualified driver?

The reason why lorries get more attention when they are driven badly or illegally is because they are bl00dy massive and get noticed more.

I've often been shocked to see one of those tippers that carry earth or gravel about approach me on the wrong side of the road at great speed. The reality is that they are probably only driving on the speed limit but, because of their size, appear to be travelling much faster.

When i worked for a small removal company we got this all the time Flash , so i can sympathise with you ...

We just fobbed them off , and had a good giggle at the nonsense they spouted.

On my last day before i left i was driving a large bodied seven and a half tonner through the Kingston one way system , when a little chav in a black escort tried to cut me up on the inside on a tight bend in order to get in front of me , ordinarily i would have tried my best to avoid him but long story short , his car came off worse ;)

Sorry, so there was an accident you could have avoided but you made a conscious decision not to, resulting in damage to his car (and possibly loss of life etc)?

The Escort driver could have avoided it too. He put himself in the way if danger.

Sounds fair enough.

No , no risk of loss of life.

I was in a lumbering 7.5 tonner , he was screaming up my inside , i was doing no more than 15 mph round the bend .... his fault totally ...

I could have stuck the truck up on the pavement , potentially knocking over a set of traffic lights , but didn't see why i should do and get a bollocking from my boss for wrecking the truck . It has happened to me before , the idiots never stop , and you are left to explain to your boss why his insurance is going up and why the truck can't be used the next day.

Not going to argue about it , i don't feel it was my fault .

Good day.

Hrm, I didn't mean to sound so attacking, sorry! Earlier you had said "ordinarily i would have tried my best to avoid him but long story short , his car came off worse", which made you sound like a complete. But if you simply made what you considered at the time to be the safest decision for yourself while driving - that's a totally different story :-)

Yeah , sorry , the first post ( re-reading it ) makes me sound like a bit of a c*ck .... :o

This is the bend , i was next to the raised wall , he screamed through on the middle lane , trying to get in front of me before the lights so he could continue round the one way system to the right , if he was stuck in the middle lane he would have had to filter off to New Malden. You can see the how the bus is struggling to stay in one lane there .... you have to take the bend nice and slow and nice and wide or your tyre runs up on the raised wall.
