Hi All,

I'm concerned about the service intervals for my 2004 E320CDI Estate (EU3). The maintenance book shows 95000 per service over the last 50k miles.

Frankly, this is disappointing particularly as these are all motorway miles.:(

Why only 9500 between service? The service book shows Mobil 1 was used each time. I thought ASSYST would give me up to 20,000 miles!
Thoughts welcome!

I mean of course, it shows 9500miles per service :o

There has many a thread about Assyst mileage on all MBs.

Mine gave me 17000 to first service which seemed normal compared to other W211s, then 11000 miles to the next service. It is now due at about 10000 miles, with 3500 to go this may go up depending on use. The Assyst showed 9500 when first set after a service, but did then vary according to use.

Is there a time when the "miles to go" corrects itself. Does it do it gradually, or suddenly switch?

My concern is that I've done motorway miles, yet it steadily ticks down mile per mile from 9500miles. Its showing 1000 miles, so there's still time for it to pleasantly surprise me... :(

It should gradually switch, doing slightly less miles than the speedo. In your case the chances of any change in the last 1000 miles are pretty slim.:(

Assyst

I have had this problem with my W211 E220CDI since new, and has been a running sore between myself, the local dealer and MB UK.

Apparently, from February this year all W211 cars leaving the factory in Germany have been programmed with 15500 fixed service intervals. All existing cars will have their ASSYST systems reprogrammed to this new fixed interval when they next visit the dealer. Mine has aready been changed.

Apparently MBUK were getting complaints from fleet operators who couldn't understand the new system, and were also complaining that the new W211 cars were requiring service at more frequent intervals. Pity MBUK only listens to its fleet buyers!

As part of the same overhaul of "policy" all "Sealed for life" automatic gearboxes will now have an oil change every 60,000 miles.

The latter is common sense (at last) and the ASSYST fiasco seems a prime example of how to get it wrong given that the system was trumpeted as improving the lot of fleet users in terms of reducing servicing costs!

I was told that originally the ASSYST settting was around a 30,000km default (assuming use of high grade fully synthetic oil) but that this was reset for new and existing vehicles to 20.000km for synthetic MB 229.5 oils and 15,000km for conventional oils after MB took fright at the disasters of oil sludging in North America.

So now it sounds like they are stepping down again (and no doubt stripping all those expensive dielectric oil quality sensors out in the process?)

once again mbz have got it so wrong and you just have to look at the true value of 3 and 4 year old mercs prices are dropping with diesel and petrol at near enough £1 a litre prices will keep on falling
i would hate to try and sell a big engined merc
it seems that the advice on this site is spot on ie more oil changes in the engine and auto boxes well done all
