At Iconic, not EBay, a jolly nice Ford Escort. But what is it really worth?

Ha! Waiting for my cheque from the NS&I as well .....

I have only ever owned one Ford Cosworth car and it was lovely - 1991 Granada Scorpio 24v V6, Had it for quite sometime and i was the second owner, doubt it would ever fetch those stupid prices though.... Think i sold it for £1500

I took an original white Cosworth Sierra 3 door in PX once that I smoked around for a bit (I saw 160 on the clock on a ...ahem....."private closed road"....never been faster in a car on the road).....Today they are definitely a rose tinted glasses job as it was a horrible agricultural thing to drive with low budget suspension. This one was only made worse by the Turbo Technics 330 hp conversion.....although it was rather quicker/faster, the lag was massive.....and it coming on boost whilst half way around a slightly shiny, but dry corner was not something I need to repeat.....but I did get the stain out of the drivers seat!!! 😄 I sold it to Hendy Ford in Portsmouth....I had to wait around the corner to let the engine cool enough to stop it ticking and clicking....well it was my last drive!....the good old days before speed cameras. Never meet your heros!!

SAAB turbos were my addiction in that era. I’d love one again, as an “antique” but I know, in my heart, that if I did drive one again that Turbo lag would be a wierd old thing to “manage.”

Fast cars though. As the police on the M1 and M3 pointed out at the time.

On the face of it, doesn't look like a bad effort TBF. Nice colour too.

It used to be burgendy - it seems they couldn't be bothered re-painting the floor paneI and I know it's only an estimate but £15k is a crazy price for a very old, very slow Ford Escort.

They also have this estimated at £50k. At least it's a real Cossie but has rotten arches, flat paint and bits of trim hanging off. The mechanical condition is anybody's guess. I suspect you would be better off simply buying a decent one that hasn't been neglected:

All I know is it's 100% better than it would have been if I'd had a crack at it...

For your coffee break, starts at 43 minutes in. Lot 110.

"Seems" to have been driven up beyond £100k by at least two bidders in the room, although always difficult to judge.

£180k hammer plus £22k buyer's commission.

"Fast Fords" - they're crazy.

Auction prices for classics are "generally" a bit soft, but "there are exceptions." (Thanks to Harry and Leno, maybe?)

Cheers Mike. 👍🏾 it’s slightly echoing the RS500 that sold god knows how long back at the same place (when they used to be Silverstone) .. link I’ve attached but im sure all are familiar by now, the fast fords have gone mad indeed.

My late father in law’s Cosworths were both tuned by Brooklyn Ford to 330 BHP if I remember right - unfortunately I can’t ask him now 🙁

They were the first fast cars I ever went in at the age of 12, and it completely blew my mind. My parents had a 16 year old Morris 1800 at the time!

I can still remember clearly the feeling of being pinned into the back seat with the G force accelerating from rest at the traffic lights.

Very shortly after my best mate’s Dad bought a Nissan 300 ZX which was very fast - and much more refined - but lacked the turbo boost thump.

One of quite a few cossies i have owned, superb memories and joyful cars

Was that the £600,000 example?

It went at the beginning of last year and it was a proper low mileage out the factory example.
It even had the original hoses and tyres on it rendering it unable to fire up and drive.
Was only last year? Felt like ages ago haha..

Yeah it had something like 500 miles on it didn’t it?

Get thee behind me, Satan !!

(Wonder if that's the reason Jonny Smith was down at Munich Legends earlier this month?)
