Audio Jack in Glovebox

Hi all,

I have an audio jack plug in the glove box of my 2006 ML (164), this does not seem to work. I also have the MB ipod audio kit installed.

My question is, would the audo jack be somehow disconnected because of the integrated ipod?

If not is there a way of getting them to both work?

To use the ipod I connect it up and switch the comand system to aux, I have done the same thing to try and get the jack plug to work by switching comand to aux....

Thanks
M.

When Alfie fitted my ipod kit on my W204 it involved disconnecting the jack in the glovebox.

Yes, the AUX jack is disconnected when you install the MB iPod kit (as it uses that input on the Stereo for the iPod sound)

Thanks, thought as much.

Is there another way to connect a non iphone to the cars audio system without using a FM transmitter?

a) Remove iPod kit ! (Very easy on a ML) or;
b) Make some sort of switch device to switch between iPod and AUX. I did this once for someone's W211 (E class) but its more complex on the other cars as the AUX is part of a much bigger connector than on the E class or;
c) Add a Dension GW500 which pretends to be a CD changer and gives you AUX in as-well as iPod

Did whoever installed the iPod kit make another hole in the glovebox for the iPod lead ? Or does it come out somewhere different on your car ? Where there is an existing 3.5mm most installers remove it as its an ideal hole for the iPod lead to come through.

Richard,

After your post above I have investigated further.....

I removed the glove box and followed the 3.5mm socket, I found it was still connected to the large connector block behind the comand system.

As for the iphone kit this was all installed when I got the car.

So (bear with me as this may all sound as clear as mud!!) what I did was to remove the connected 3.5mm jack from the connector block (Picture 1) and noticed that there were no pins inside the block, the connector was just slotted in. I took the connector appart to show a black female terminal (Picture 2/3). This I rotated 180 degrees and put it in the other slot next to where it was originally installed (Picture 4/5 note-the picture actually shows it the wrong way around) and where there were some pins that it could connect to....

On comand I pressed Audio which gives me the audio input screen (Picture 6) and selected the Rear button....voila!!! It plays through the jack plug.

I now have CDC input, ipod input and 3.5mm input....

Hope this helps. :)

Super!!

a) I had forgotten that ML/GL/R actually have 2 audio inputs, the normal AUX and the Rear
b) You are lucky that your rear input is enabled - my car has rear screens, and thus I can't remember whether that rear menu is always present or not - clearly on your car it was.

I will (next time I am near WIS) dig out what the exact pin out is so you can re-configure it if L+R is the wrong way round !!

There is actually a black shell (like that white shell) for the vacant position, but you'd have to move all the wires to use it.
