Audi puts Mercedes S-Class "To Bed" in new A8 TV ad

I think Audis have looked nice until recently, in fact many still do.

I have liked the designs of the ones I have owned, the avants especially...

Just they are going completely overboard with the chrome and the stupid ****in' fairy lights on these new models.

Think the new S4 looks quite nice though.....

Totally agree with Gizze. Audi are seriously trying too hard now.

I love the simple and yet effective design of their cars up to 2010. Newer models are becoming just ridiculous.

They used to make solid conservatively styled cars, timeless looking. Now they are tacky

I think that new A8 looks atrocious - the previous 2 generations were quite elegant in a bland Audi way.

But the new range, especially the new A4 and even more so in the A8 appear to have a very bling, in-your-face front end which morphs into a very weak rear end - the way the boot line tapers in and down as it edges rearwards just makes it look all face and no ****.

They are currently one of my least favourite car brands.

Was that designed by Auditroll.com, I was an Audi fan until about 2 mins ago when i saw that ad. the R8 Maranello ad was a but tong and cheek but that ad. Its just senseless, childish, dim witted, and cocky. I love BMW's comeback tho.

Obviously they have spent a bit of money on producing this ad, but the content is really weak & the glimpse of the s class looks stunning! Audi looks naff. What are those doorlock indicator things??

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot!!

I looked at that brief glimpse of the S class and thought, 'oh that looks lovely'. Then the Audi A8 came up and I almost baulked. It's utterly ugly and OTT front grill is horrible and it just got worse the more of the car I saw.

Truly horrible and IN YOUR FACE BITCH. Shocking.

I have to agree on Ad campaigns in America. It's not just Audi, but Americans do seem enjoy a "dumbing down" version of adverts.

That A8 one in the OP is an excellent example on this. I would have an S-Class over an A8, any day.
I recently drove a brand new short wheel base A8 in Germany. A decent enough luxury vehicle, but bloody small compared to an S-Class. Five of us fitted, but it wasn't the most comfortable.

Audi don't often do innovation, it's usually Mercedes who are the first to do things in this market sector.

As for that Audi vs BMW campaign; that made me laugh aloud

Despite this A8 being over the top and not a mtch for the S class, I think you may be going too far with that comment. whilst Audi's do have a bland and sometimes boring shape, most of their interiors are beautiful with quality materials. An example of a top notch Audi is the R8 and talking about BMW refer to post above...

I happen to have liked most Americans I've encountered on their home soil. The majority are kind-hearted and generous people, but their knowledge of what goes on outside their own borders is practically non-existent. It always makes me chuckle when watching a Hollywood movie and I see a shot of London/Paris/Berlin etc and a caption appears stating "London England, Paris France, Berlin Germany" or wherever......

In relation to this ad - 'nuff said.

I agree with most of the points about the S Class vs the Audi, but I think the advert will nonetheless have the desired effect - even if it is a cheap tactic to say "we're like what you know is brilliant but we reckon we're better"
