Audi puts Mercedes S-Class "To Bed" in new A8 TV ad

It used to be interiors, but BMW haas got them well and truly beat on that with the new 5 series and I bet the new 3 too next year.

Oli, those comparisons aren't really true.

I would pick S3 over Focus RS any day. Fords are cheaply made and their interiors are far behind from German rivals. Also not everyone likes the crazy looks of RS, while S3 is more or less sublime. There are more ups and downs, but overall I would surely take S3.

Q7 has never really been a success for Audi, so I do accept that it's losing to Range Rovers, X5s and MLs.

A8 is not a competitor for an S-Class and I don't think it will ever be. The luxury and comfort image that Mercedes has established for their S-Class over the years can't even be beaten by BMW...

R8 vs Gallardo? Well, it's quite tricky here. While the "regular" R8 has pretty much the same 4.2 V8 engine that you get in RS4, the R8 V10 has the same engine as Gallardo.

They're different cars for sure, but essentially the same company is making them. The only work that Italian do for Lambo is the design - the rest is done by Audi nowadays.

I would say that the current strongest selling point for Audi are their hatchbacks and "everyday" diesels.

Currently in US with work and this advert was aired at the weekend during the breaks in the US football semis. In general I have not seen many German cars heres, they seem to prefer trucks, Toyota Camrays and their own makes. In most States and certainly the one I am in the speed limit is low and enforced - no need for power you cannot use it, although that does not explain why they have so many V8's.
A8 V8 Diesel is stunning according to pundits and will thump our beloved brands V6 CDI (which I must admit is fast in my E Class, but more power would be nice with the mpg).

I'm not saying I dislike Audis, I have fond memories of my 1.8 T sport A3 but why they try and attack other car manufacturers that make cars that can equal or better them is beyond me and seems a bit childish.I know the Focus RS isn't to everyones taste but I prefer it to the S3, again the R8 is a great car but if I had that kind of money to spend I would go with the Lambo even though they are similar.

Alright, got your point now :) First I thought, you meant all Audi's are sh!t

I think by doing aggressive advertising and bashing other car manufacturers they're getting more attention, and since they keep doing that, then it probably works for them.

I definatly don't think Audis are **** cars, in fact I quite like most of them, I would have an A4 diesel over a Passat or 3 series and even though I prefer the Focus RS I do like the S3 and Golf R but I've sort of grown out of liking hot hatches now, perhaps I'm getting old!.

I will not make a judgement until I have driven the new A8. I have owned an earlier A8 and the W221 S class in the last ten years and couldn't give a fig what they look like, I'm only interested in how they are from the drivers seat:o
I have driven the latest Jaguar XJ and was seriously impressed by the driving experience if not the low speed ride qualities of that car.
I don't think any of the three could be called good looking, just different levels of aggression!:)
