Audio 20 in SLK - How do you get the Traffic Reports working

I am currently struggling with the Audio 20 in the SLK. I want to get the RDS traffic reports so they interupt CD or even Radio.

e.g. Set Radio to Radio 4 and then when a BBC local radio station like Radio Northants or Coventry and Warwickshire or West Mids gives out a message it over rides.

Does the Audio 20 have this ability? Can anyone tell me how to turn it on?

I can tune to Radio 4 and select TP (Traffic Programme) so TP is displayed but I get no Traffic News.

A read of the manual has not enlightened me either.

That's just what I would have suggested.

Maybe there were no traffic reports? How long did you wait?

There are single receiver units, not sure if on an SLK. But since it shows TP when you are on a different channel, it should be able to receiver the report. Would the channel it is listening have different messages. And, like above, how can you be sure there did exist reports when you test it? Should have another receiver on the the other channel to compare.

Don't know exactly how an audio 20 works, but on an RDS system TP normally means that the radio is tuned to a station which will brodcast traffic info. you also need to have TA displayed.
Perhaps pressing and holding a traffic button would enable this.

Hold the mute button for a moment - the T will change appearance (I think!)

- about 10 seconds from memory, I think the TA changes to 'inverse' - to show its receiving RDS ta and its enabled.

Interestinglty Gollom's trick seems to work on all MB head units as a shortuct

Yes, but most cars (not all) now have two tuners, one is able to follow traffic info while the other is reading the current radio channel that does not.

Thanks everyone problem solved.

When TP is on the screen. If you press and hold mute after a couple of seconds the unit beeps and a little box appears around the TP letters. This must mean it has activated.

I have not tested it yet but will tomorrow. On my run down the M1 each day you get loads of messages!

The Audio-20-CD has 2 tuners (well, it has a diverse antenna input, so I've assumed it has 2 rather than some internal bodge) - but MB stopped fitting the diverse antenna kit to at least the A & B class around mid 06 if the car doesnt have COMAND. - so I suspect they did it across the range.

Alfie's A class (06 plate I think) has the diverse antenna (but of course now has COMAND) - my A class (56 plate) didnt.

Yes it works like a dream, I am getting interrups from the local BBC radio stations if listening to radio 1 2 3 or 4 and also it now over rides the CD.

It seems you need the box around TP
