Doesn't look too bad compared to the new A8 which looks like an A4 that has been locked in a chocolate factory. I'd rather have the new CLS tbh.

It went with mass production, accountants and the never ending wanting a silk purse for the cost of sows ear.

Beauty is still available, but like that wonderful car you've pictured available only to 0.01% of the planet population who have bottomless wallets.

I'm not wholly sure what an SSK cost new, but I'd hazard a guess it was more than the average house. So the comparison today is a Bentley, Rolls, Maybach etc........but more than anything the desire to make money (or plug a hole in a pension deficit) has governed what us regular folk have available.

That said, I think vehicles available today are outstanding in quality and longevity.

Doesn't do much for me. The front looks like a constipated sumo wrestler.

I honestly don't think money has all that much to do with it. To me the 211 E class is one of the most beautiful modern saloons/estates. And the SL before they face lifted it was great too. As was the old CLK.

There has been a move -ever since Bangle hit the scene- towards sharp creases, hollow concave panels with a starved horse look and ugly agressive fronts. Aggressive and in your face. Add to that silly looking fairground lights front and rear on many cars and elegance, and beauty are is short supply.

Audi's are following bmw's foot steps and aiming to the chav market now adays!

I agree with the above, 211 E class's are simply beautiful.
