Hi

The g/box slip when cold on my car had got to a point where leaving it in D when cold (at lights etc) caused a massive slip problem, though it was fine when warmed up.

MB dealer checked the level and topped up for 22 quid (I was shocked, in a good way). Unfortunately there was no explanation of how a car with no oil leak has lost nearly a litre of tranny oil.

The car now drives A1!:bannana:

Hope this helps someone.

hi jaymanek

is that a common fault then? prob just best to leave well alone until absolutely necessary?

Its a known problem. Cured by fitting an updated pin bushing into the gearbox.

yes very common... to the point i order them a few at a time as most of the cars we service are weeping from the plug.

Thanks for the replies.
I had the car serviced yesterday. There is no sign of a leak, certainly not enough to warrant a litre of fluid top up.
Maybe its evaporation over 10 yrs of use? Or perhaps was fairly low from new?

As the previous posters have said it will be your Pilot bush, the oil will be under the carpet on the passenger side (if your transmission ECU is in the same location as a W202), it doesn,t drip as it works along the loom through capillary action, till it reaches the ECU plug, it has been known to enter the ECU and cause failure.
A new bush is approx. £20, and it takes about half an hour to fit.
