I have never had problems with the auto wipers, I think they are brilliant but in saying that my mates c-class has it too and his never seems to work properly

Mine work very well. I leave the wipers in auto all the time. I do get a few odd wipes at start-up on occasions but I just leave them to it and they sort themselves out.
90% of the time I don’t even notice it raining as they just come on. Surprise splashes from lorries passing the other way through puddles are a thing of the past as they wipe before I have a chance to blink. The only time I intervene is when it is spitting big drops or the water drops off trees that just put a few splats in the line of sight.
Perhaps I am just lucky to have a good one, as I am very impressed.

Can I fit the new Bosch wipers to my W210 or is it only genuine that is available?

Me as well, leave it in auto all the time.
Only realised a few days a go that the rear wiper is supposed to come on when you select reverse with the auto set!
