Hi all,

I'm new here and looking at the forum and some questions i wish i had found you sooner.

I have a 2006 c class 200cdi with an automatic box, when driving it just drop out of gear and i have to stop before it will drive again. Looking around the forum i have noticed about the transmission fluid, could this be the case.

The car has done 120000 in the 2 and a half years but did 114000 in the first year alone, i have done most jobs myself air filters, brakes and disc's etc. But i was told that the transmission will never have to be touched.

As i said I'm new here and I'm sorry to ask questions as a newby, but this has me i little worried.

Many thanks for any advice.

Paul

The transmission fluid could be the problem if it's a bit low. It should have been changed every 40-50k miles.

Thanks Dieselman.

I have got a copy of the Service roms from MB (wis) and they talk about the transmission measuring stick, looking through some posts here i noticed that somebody tried to make one?

I have been in contact with a friend of a friend to find out that MB charge £35+VAT for this tool.

This gave me the idea of using a net curtain wire, do you think this would work if i could gather the sizes and measurements.

Thanks
Paul

Yep that would work. There are two measurements for 25degressC and 80degreesC. It MUST be 100% spot on.

Thanks,

Do you know the measurements all i know its 1220mm in length or will it have to hit the bottom of the transmission sump or does it only go in so far?

I have found the length from somebody on google but not sure if this is the full entire length including ring top or just the stick length. Now all i need to do is find the max and min for each temp.

Thanks

Paul

The stick needs to hit the bottom of the sump pan.

It does need to be longer than the stick filler tube to ensure that it reaches the bottom.

Try this ;

Hi all,

I decided to buy the real mccoy from MB, the only problem i now have is how do you get the oil into the box??

Thanks

Paul

Careful - it is very easy to overfill. A complete fluid and filter change would not go amiss on your car; that would be my starting point.

Can i thank you all so far for the information you have given me:)

I have spoken to MB today and because my oil level seems to be ok they need to hook my car to a expensive computer and charge me £160 an hour, my problems are getting worse on Saturday it would not find 1st or 4th until i stopped the engine and restarted also my engine is running very fast and is having big trouble changing gear (like a slipping clutch) also it will not respond when manually changing gears in drive with the +/- option.

It is getting very worrying now as i feel a very large bill coming, also it may be worth pointing out that the battery was disconnected last week after some bodywork repairs were done after a little shunt in the back. I have read somewhere that this can cause problems as matters have got worse since then.

Possibly a 'maf' problem?.....

Rodders, do a search on 'maf' on this forum and see if there are any similarities to your problem.

Rodders,

First things first, you need to get it plugged in to get the trouble codes. Also you are correct in assuming that battery disconnection causes problems.

Looking at your sig I see you're in Huddersfield, I'm in Barnsley, so if you wanna give me a call on 01226 381000 I'm Paul anall, I'll hook you up to my Star FOC and tell yer what's up. HTH.

Thanks Paul for your great offer, i have just unplugged the MAF and the car still runs exactly the same as before.

But now i have the engine warning light on even when i plug it back in, my first thought when reading the forum was the MAF so thanks for confirming this.

Paul i will give you a ring over the next couple of days, whens the best time?

Thanks

Paul

Between 9AM-5PM, quite often the phone's engaged though, so you might have to persist :)

Thanks Paul see you tomorrow.

Here is an update i have taken the flow senser off to give it a clean and it's i complete sealed unit, i gave it a few taps to clear any lose muck and refitted it to the car.

Well beleive me the car has never moved so fast since it was new 3 years ago, god knows how long i have had the problem with it, i dont ever remember it being as well performed as it is now.

I know it will be temp but as long as it is proved the fault is the flow sensor i will pay the £175+vat at mercedes.

But i'm have a full checkup on the fortune telling machine (STAR) tomorrow (thanks to Paul)

I will keep you posted.

Thanks all

Paul

Before you fork out for one from MB , give Nick at EuroMerc a buzz or drop him a PM on here ( nick_mercedes ) ...

He might be able to sort you out ;)
