B Service - local garage

Just had a B Service done by the local garage I got the Merc from - would normally do myself but car has 12 months warranty, should be taken back to them for any warranty work (they deal with the warranty co etc) and I need a "official" service for the warranty.

Worked out quite well - got charged £277 all in for Oil, Oil/Air filters, 12 Spark Plugs (the proper spec Platinum ones) and handbrake adjustment. Split was £136 parts and £100 labour (+VAT). Given the effort involved in changing the plugs on a C240 I'm happy with that.

OK it was just a local garage "Full Service" really not the full Merc B service checklist (pollen filter was missed) but I was only there to maintain the warranty and they covered the important stuff. I'm happy to check off the extra things at the weekend - I'd already checked most things on the B service list since having the car anyway.

Plugs weren't strictly due for a change until the next service, which I was planning doing after the warranty expires, but given the low labour costs I not that upset that they saved me the hassle of wrestling with the back 4!

Stevesey, That seems a good price considering it included the 12 plugs, oil and filters. What milage on your C240 ?

Mileage = 105K - hence was planning plugs at next service, although the service book had ticks for plugs at 60K and 75K - hadn't checked one of the front ones to see what type they were, but (like you?) I'm working my way round the car checking everything and sorting so I have a good baseline to work from.

Fuel filter and charcol cannister are next on the list. Also brake fliud and coolant to do at some point. :)

P.S. Did already have the clip tool when you did your fuel filter - wondering where the best place to get one is.

If I were you, I would fit hose clips (jubilee) instead of them stupid fuel pipe "click R" clips. They are a real pain in the a** .

The price you pay for the special clip pliers is not worth it. In Asda, I seen clamp like pliers at £1.25 that actually do the job better than the clip pliers.

I thought the tool helped removing the old clips - or is it just a case of carefully cutting them off (must go and re-read your post).

"Click R" pliers or a similar tool is required to also refit the new "Click R" clips, not just to remove them. You won't be able to fit new clips unless you have the tool to open them up when refitting.

Hence why I suggest using hose clips on the rebuild. I used Qty 2
"Click R" s on the refit and 2 hose clips on the larger lines. (There are 4 lines)

One thing i did not mention was, junior hacksaw was required to remove one clip, as it was so corroded, that the clamp pliers had no grip, so I had to cut it, fit new hose and I got soaked in petrol !!
