Backup solutions

If you just want secure storage...really secure, then you want archival grade BluRay disks, no moving parts, 200 year estimated life...or if you must have live acces, level 6 RAID with hot swap drives.....got a nice PowerEdge you could have cheap....;)

cheers!

btw Acronis do several versions with network storage, it works very well

Update - Tried NTI Shadow - waste of time - it crashed after restarting a previous part backup. Tried Goodsync - worked OK on one share on the NAS, but it didn't like my starting a backup of a second share. Crashplan won't find anything but a drive on the computer it's installed on, so of no use. Downloading Synctoy now, so we'll see what that does!

I'm guessing these a freebies then...

If you already have one Netgear ReadyNAS, it might be worth investing in another if they can sync to each other.

This might save you a lot of hassle.

Most NAS boxes can RSYNC to each other but if you buy the same manufacturer, they often have a proprietary mechanism.

You could ask Netgear if that is possible.

Whitenemesis - I downloaded NTI Shadow from their own website - couldn't find it on the Netgear site.

Balge - have you seen the price of blueray disks, yet alone archival ones?!!

JohnEBoy - they were trial versions. Another NAS box, now that's a thought that hadn't occurred! I'll look into it.

Less than £20 a disc last time I looked, depends if you actually want to store the data safely, there's a big difference compared to hard drive life even RDX which is designed for it.
You already keep multiple copies on hard drives so that's as reliable as it can be short of off-area storage.
BTW if you do get more storage drives 2.5" are believed to last longer than 3.25", RDX even better though plus they do 100 GB/hour...
cheers
