Bad Gear Change (AUTO BOX)

Hi All
I have a 2005 220CDI auto and the last couple of days the gear change is far from as smooth as it used to be.

Sometimes it feels as though it struggles to get from 2nd to 3rd and then jumps into gear instead of a smooth change.

Any ideas as to what the problem could be.

Thanks
Norman

I'd check to make sure the engine is running as it should (I.e no misfire / faulty injector etc) as this would make you think the problem is with the auto box when in fact it's another problem causing the symptoms ........ If this is ok then I'd recommend a change of transmission fluid first just to eliminate this & go from there ............ Unless anyone else has any other ideas / more knowledge ??.........hope you get it sorted

Mark

Get the oil level check by a specialist, I bet your electrics pack seals are leaking and your oil level has dropped, Mercedes autos play up if the level is to low.

Thanks for the reply guys,Had full service 1,700 miles ago which included auto oil change and filter but will do as you say and get it checked for problems.

I wouldn't muck about by guessing, just get it on Star.

Getting code
C1185
A7/761 (BAS DIAPHRAM TRAVEL SENSOR)
ELECTRICAL FAULT.

Would this be causing the problem

No. That is an ESP code.

Hi All
Just did a search on this and it is a common problem on the W203 C-Class and Mercedes produced a repair kit, just need to find out where to get one now.

The bas diaphram travel sensor is located in the brake servo.

That code has bugger all to do with your gearbox issue. Get the level checked first and if it is low find the leak.

Yes quite agree with you I am going to get the levels checked as you suggest but of course I have this other problem I have to get sorted as well but I am having problems locating one of the Mercedes kits to put the bas sensor fault as well.

Do you have a ESP light on?

No,no lights showing on dash just picked this code checking to see if I had a code come up for the transmission problem.

That was the only code I had come up with a complete star check for everything.

If an ATF & filter change didn't cure it, maybe it's the valve body on the gearbox that's playing up. That caused jumpy, 'revvy' gearchanges for us. We'd had an oil and filter change that didn't solve it so took a chance and replaced the valve body with a reconditioned one. STAR hadn't shown anything. Gearbox is silky smooth again

Hi Guys

Sorted it was the
TURBO CHARGER AIR INTERCOOLER HOSE

Had a 4 inch split in it and it was at the bottom of the hose so you could not see it.
