Evening all,

I am a newbi from Tamworth Staffs: Car 1999 C180 Auto

Well I have gone and got me my first Merc....however I have the BAS/ASR light issue, so after trawling threads I changed the brake switch and it has not worked.

Symptoms:
Car starts hot or cold perfectly ticks over smoothly if you feather pedal it will rev ok ish
give it some revs BAS/ASR light comes on
idle then hunts
no power
misfire (not sure but sounds like it)

If you drive the car (not easy with this problem) it sounds like it is running on 2/3 cylinders when you stop with it in D

I will have a go at cleaning wheel sensors to see if this helps

I sprayed the MAF does not seem to make any difference plugged in or not

This seems to be a common problem but I cant seem to find threads that don't relate to the brake switch

Is there something else I need to be looking for
Coils possibly?
or does anyone know where I can get it plugged in (like I say driving it is very difficult

appreciate any thoughts

sounds like MAF, should be a difference when you unplug it

Does sound like maf for your running trouble's and they don't like being cleaned really but I did mine with contact cleaner when I took it out and blew it dry and it cured my running problems and lasted 8 months but then it was time for a new Bosch one and it's been perfect since! (2 years). Don't think your asr bas light would have anything to do with the running issues. When mine came on it was picked up on star and was the left rear speed sensor. New one from mb was cheap and when I fitted it that sorted it. Sounds like it would be worth a star session.

Hi thanks for reply, I will have a go at properly cleaning it as it looks like the original as its a Bosch one just to see if it does run slightly better before getting a new one as did the brake light switch which had MB on it, I know what your saying about the BSR light just odd that it lights up once the car is revved but has not moved any where so not too sure about that.
I want it plugged in but the only indi around here wants £100 to plug it in....so erm might as well go to a proper Benze one which is up the road from me I'll just have to nurse it up their rather than feed the greed of these people.

Hi all, had another look today seems the MAF has been fiddled with before so I am thinking it needs a new one, also I have just noticed that the middle silencer is very corroded and leaking would this cause issues also?

hi all, been fiddling today. I have gone through fuses one by one and re-seated as I have read that this has cured many issues for people. I did notice that one was missing for the "auto pilot" so replaced...still have the above issue

now I have also notice that it has a new battery on the car with an indicator showing the condition of the battery. it has always shown green (fully charged) since
I have had the car..today noticed that it is now saying charge...yet the car fired up with no issues but has not driven anywhere since I got it (due to the above issue) ..is this anything to be concerned about? also there is very little fuel in it now and I have also read that low fuel levels cause issues??
I have fixed the hole in exhaust again has made no difference. I did however wash it today (most of the sahara is covering it) and noticed water has pooled under the BAS module, the drains are clear but my drive is on a slight nose down incline...
Is it ok to take the BAS module off to see if there is corrosion within it without disconnecting the battery (again after reading they don't really like having the battery disconnected)
