Car
2005 W215 CL500.
Just driving down the motorway and the BAS ESP and EPC warnings come on. The ESP switch does nothing. My car has Parameter steering and this seems to be inoperative ( I still have power steering, but its heavier now).
What are your thoughts??

it could be a wheel speed censor , this would cause the ESP BAS lights and could also affect the PML (paramater steering ) .These 3 functions are controled by the same ECU ,

I was thinking of the brake pedal switch , but this will also cause the car to get stuck in park , needing the driver to use a pen to disengage the park lock

not always....

Twice we have had this on wifes old mercs, 210 and 163 and both times we just got warning lights but car drove fine.

New switch from merc solved it both times under £10.

Dont forget the switch is in fact 2 switchs one to make a circuit for the brake light switch and the other to break a circuit for the esp, cruise etc

Also had this on last disco everything worked apart from brake lights.

Thanks,

So, to-day. Everything is working ok, but...another issue has cropped up. It may be related to the first...on a trailing throttle, at any speed, the car is revving up and down of its own accord.
So long as I apply the lightest of pressure on the throttle its ok, but as soon as I relax even a millimetre, its jerking back and forth, as if I was foot on, foot off, foot on, etc.

Any guesses would be appreciated.:)

I have lived with the above since December. To-day I switched the ESP off...cured. Went to Indie...we think damaged wheel sensor from the original problem. He will get a part from a scrapper...maybe £100 in total.

It will be false economy buying a second hand one. Buy new when it comes to this type of component
