SL500 R230
hi guys I need some advice, I am going on holiday for 3 weeks, and I am worried about the mercedes SL500 R230 model battery draining as it wont be driven. I only drive it on weekends anyway, I was wondering if any of you have any advice about using battery charger/optimisers from halfords and whether this will keep the battery topped up!? any advice would be much appreciated thanks in advance!!

I've used a battery optimiser for years on my 968 - it's like a clever trickle charger that keeps the battery fully charged and switches on and off as required. The 968 has stood for 10 weeks on occasions and started first time every time.

My R129 is permanently hooked up to an AccuMate maintenance charger.

I bought it after the car only just started once ... the low voltage caused errors on the roll bar and windows that had to be reset via STAR.

The C-TEK range is meant to be very good. The MULTI XS 3600 is I think the real all rounder, although the slighlty compromised lesser Zafir 90 can often be found in Costco for very little. C-TEK themselves have confirmed that the Zafir 90 will correctly charge even a 105 Ah battery, it will just take a little longer than documented. If the primary battery you want to maintain os over 90 Ah I would go for the XS 3600 or an AccuMate.

hi guys thanks for the quick replies!!! does the accumate have to be kept plugged in to the mains? or can i charge it and leave it in the boot as my car is kept in our residential car park no access to a power outlet, and if so which accumate do I need for my car will the 6v&12v do? thanks guys!!

You need a mains socket to run any battery charger apart from a solar one.

To be honest, if your battery is in decent condition 3 weeks should be OK.

I use the 6v&12v AccuMate on my R129 ... battery is 100 Ah IIRC.
