Can anyone tell me what is the correct type/amperage battery for my 1980 450 SEL please, the one that came on my car is way too small and is now dead and won't hold a charge. I would imagine it needs to be heavy duty.

Thanks,

Leigh.

Try putting your registration number or car details in the Eurocarparts website, it should list the correct battery and if you use the forum dicount code you may get the 25% off!

Already tried that, it doesn't like my car for some reason. I've sourced one now anyway.

Thanks.

The originals were listed alternatively as 55, 66 or 88 amp hours if that's any help. The maxim is get the highest amp hour/cold cranking battery that will physically fit. Surprisingly these old V8 take less turning over than you might think--lower compression ratio fuelled by petrol--- beats modern high compression /glowplug diesels any day

this would be a suitable mid cost buy but check fitment first http://www.tayna.co.uk/Type-096-Var...11-Varta-DIN-574-012-068-574012068-P7618.html
