I was told buying a stereo from Europe or the USA won't work in the UK !!!!
Is there a way or a trick to make the radio work???
Many thanks
Peter.

I can't see why one from Europe won't work. I don't think they wire them differently! This is a German car forum after all. I doubt there would be an issue with the US either. What sort of problems were suggested?

Hopefully Richard or Alfie will answer you shortly, but I believe there is a difference in the frequency gaps between stations in the US compared to Europe. This is likely to cause a problem with US radios as the US digital tuners will expect the US frequency gaps between stations, although they will still pick up some stations.

Europe ones no problem in VAG cars, radio and functions made for the German market function perfectly in the UK. I think USA one have an issue with radio frequencies though at least on most of the imports I've seen

USA has different frequency range and spacing to Europe
Japan is also different
EU and UK the same

Often there are hidden menu's to change the frequency bands, but i'd stick with a European sourced one if i were you

Richard

Thanks for the reply guys, I'm trying to buy the original radio that came with the car as it left the dealers, any way on my data card it says ( MB radio special with traff, mess, rds, 512 )
Can someone tell me in simple English what type of radio is it????

The MB Special radio is one of a range of 3 (being Classic, Special, and Exquisit) which were made by Becker around 93 to 96 ish, and which should be a simple slot-in to the single din with din cabling that 1 imagine you have in your 320ce.
Search for Mercedes Special radio on e- bay: the specialist dealers seem to be in germany, poland, lithuania and bulgaria, but they advertise in english.
Expect to have to replace the control knob (seem to be made of the same stuff as the wiring loom insulation on 124s), and to have too clean up the volume control electronics wth electrical contact cleaner.
I have an ipod shuffle wired into a cassette to allow mp3 use on mine: this little clumsiness seems their main downside. Upside is a good quality device that looks right, is easy to use, and has all the necessary wiring provided, e.g. To fit in with the dash lighting.
You can get a matching cd multiplayer but I have heard that these were none too reliable.
