I have owned a Harman Becker Map Pilot that I purchased with a new C-Class W204 in October 2013. Although it has been far from intuitive or easy to update, I have managed to keep everything working properly until my most recent attempt at the beginning of June 2019.
Although the updates ran smoothly and all the indicator flags were green, it kept crashing/hanging during use. Extremely unhappy.
After several calls and support e-mail exchanges, I was informed today (25th June 2019) that my version of the device was too old for the latest firmware. Apparently, I now have the choice of (1) reverting to a 2018 release and staying with out-of-date maps, or (2) purchasing a new unit with a serial number that starts with *M054... or higher
Mine has a serial number which starts with *M013B... etc. This is now expensive trash.
Mercedes customer services were up to their usual, dim, inarticulate and unhelpful selves. Disgraceful.
